Amazing, simply amazing.
I recall watching a video a few years ago as a senior member of the Walinda family was making a wire walk between a couple of buildings. The cable began a pretty big sway, and Mr Walinda lost his balance bar. He bent down to grab the cable but did not have the grip to hang on. He fell to his death. This was what I was thinking about when I heard of this walk across the falls. I am glad this was a success.

That was his Great Grandfather who died doing that walk, in Puerto Rico.

This time, Nik Wallenda, was tethered to the cable in case he did happen to fall. You can see the tether trailing behind him in the below pic.
He was tethered. I am not sure if he actually needed the tether or not (probably required by the city/county), but there is nothing wrong with safety mechanisims in place if you ask me.
I heard he is in a bit of trouble though for failing to show his passport at the border!:D

He wanted to do the walk without the tether, but was required to use it by ABC which broadcast the walk live, insisted that Wallenda wear a harness connected to the wire to spare its viewers the possibility of seeing the daredevil fall to his death.
Before the walk, Wallenda said he only wore the harness because he needed ABC's financial support for cover the costs of his project, which topped $1 million.
He told his father that wearing the safety harness made him feel like a jackass .

He had his passport with him, in a plastic bag, and produced for the Canadian immigration officials waiting for him. (I hear they confiscated his balance pole... too weapon like! :D)

That was between the two Condado Plaza Hotel Buildings. We used to stay there when we went down to work @Executive Airlines.
