A rash of shootings in Chicago? How can this be? obama's hometown? Rahm Emanuel, Mayor? It's a gun-free city? No handguns are allowed?

CHICAGO – A teenager was killed and 24 other people were wounded in a string of apparently unrelated shootings across Chicago, the Chicago Tribune reported Sunday.

A six-year-old girl was among those hurt in the spate of violence that began Saturday afternoon and continued through Sunday morning.

The child was playing outside her home on the Southwest Side Saturday afternoon when she was struck by a bullet after two groups of people on a nearby corner started arguing, police said.

On Chicago's West Side, five people were shot within five blocks of each other between 2:10am and 2:30am local time.

Police were investigating whether those incidents were related.

A party bus was riddled with bullets outside a bar in the Lawndale neighborhood early Sunday, according to police and the bus' driver.

Three men -- aged 18, 19 and one whose age was unknown -- were struck.

The 19-year-old, identified by the Cook County medical examiner's office as Jaleel Beasley, died at Mount Sinai Hospital, the Tribune reported.

A short distance away, police found two people shot inside an SUV that appeared to have been in a collision.

Don't get me started.

Laws only apply to citizens that abide by them.

Hmm....Cities generally thought of as being bastions of liberal/social-ism

A trend perhaps?

Someone needs to take the bull by the horn there in Chicago and declare a cease- fire, get everyone together, give ice tea to the grown ups and skittles to the kiddies and have them all reflect on how terrible this kind of behavior is. Maybe then and only then will they see the error of their ways. Can't we all get along? I guess it depends on who is shooting who as to the level of attention that is garnered. Surely the annointed one will weigh in on this and make some calls.

We're looking at well over 50 for the weekend, probably over 60 or 70 if the trends hold for Monday. Interesting how the farther south you go, the worse it gets.

Hey?! How about that NATO thing though - those police did a great job, eh? All that complaining about being shorthanded? Good guys and gals but they sure don't have any idea how to run a police department, ya know?
