I guess she changed her mind.

They left out the part where she says "Whooo Eeeee! Let's do it again!" on the ground.
Holy Cow,
The old saying, "No sounds a whole lot like go" no longer holds true. There have been too many accidents from tandem passengers getting in the way of a good skydive, who simply didn't want to go...and shouldn't have.
I am not saying this was entirely the fault of the passenger. The tandem instructor should have ended this skydive in the door.
Both parties are very lucky.
Just my $0.02.

I've never skydived, but why would an experienced tandem instructor take a person out when she clearly changed her mind?...........:(

I've never understood why ANYone would want to fall from an aircraft as, essentially, a glorified rucksack!
I am, however, considering making an parachute jump from an aircraft 'while in fright' to celebrate the 63rd anniversary of my birth this July!

(I'll be in the area of Ft Bragg... so I'm open to, and would appreciate, any suggestion as to good skydiving operations. (My last freefall was in '75  , and last military static line jump was in '82... AND, I do not wish to be a 'rucksack'!):D
Good luck Zonie..........;)

@ Big Teddy,
Some tandem places are "tandem factories". They make lots of money doing it. In fact, they care about their tandems more than their fun jumpers.
That lady's harness was too lose, the instructor's fault. The instructor should have ended it when she clearly did not want to go. There is no shame in it, only money.
At my home DZ, we have a few people each year that come down with the plane. No big deal.
As an skydive instructor, before I skydive with a student, before we jump, in the plane, I ask "are you ready to skydive?". If the student says "no", we land in the plane. I don't want to be in the air with a person that really may not want to be there. They can become a danger to themselves or others.

He should have his tandem rating revoked. A hard canopy deployment in that harness postion and the woman falls from the harness and becomes a dead person thanks to that goons haphazard attitude.
The camera guy would no longer be allowed to work for me either since he clearly reached forward to help pull her hands off of the door...
...dont touch my tandem passenger unless you are the TI.
The way that womans harness was adjusted, and the way he forced her from the door are absolutely unacceptable.

That rig didn't look like it had any "Diagonals"!!
Definitely not a Strong Rig!!

Both the Tandem Master and the Videographer should have their USPA Licenses/Certifications REVOKED!!

Why make her jump?
She isn't getting the money back, even if she stays onboard the plane for the landing.
Is it worth breaking an 80 y/o woman's bones prying her off the door or killing her with a fall from the rig, just for the story?
I agree, the guys who did this should not be doing tandems any more, and probably not any sort of instruction.
The FAA may yet weigh in on this.

That incident is over a year old and the tandem master did have his tandem rating revoked. The incident happened at skydive Lodi, which is not a USPA DZ. They have also had fines imposed against them by the FAA for aircraft maintenance violations.

What's the difference in being a USPA DZ vs not being one? And how do you check to see if a DZ is a USPA DZ and that their A/C is up to date?

Thanks!!! nice to know that the two DZ's that I go to are USPA approved. I've heard of Lodi (as in a place to sky dive), but that's one DZ that I won't be going to.

I'm not bashful about asking to see the A/C Logbook!! I almost ate it in a 195 when the "Shaky Jake" seized up on takeoff!! Found my "Belly Wart" handle in the wreckage. We were @ about 100', just off the end of the runway with a rice field in front of us when it got REALLY quiet. Sitting in the door, I left, actually exited right and threw my reserve ripcord handle into the aircraft!!
