Yes, I know, I shouldn't be surfing FB in the first place.

But this guy has caught my attention. There is a post by the US Army Special Forces Command about training with Russian military at Ft. Carson.
This Matt Kumm posted a comment about the 10th Group being his "old unit" and that he's been to "that range".
Taking a quick look at his profile I have my doubts that this guy was ever with Group.
Dunno if somebody wants to run his name through AKO, and if he's not for real send him a nice reminder to not claim SF if he wasn't.

Did not see a Matt Kumm on AKO, do not recall him in 10th. But that isn't uncommon, my memory for names is shot.

Thanks Destrier.

I also found this Matthew Kumm, claiming service with 10th SF:

Says he served from 93 to 97, rank Specialist. Some of the photos on this page look like Vietnam...?

Location is the same as in the FB profile, Ohio.

I think it's the same guy. Matt, Matthew, location Ohio. Would be too much of a coincidence to have two Kumm's serving in 10th.

I posted in that FB thread, asking him which BN. he was in.

1988. Have you been with 1st Bn. in Tölz? Thank you for your service!

Could not have been Tolz for 93-97, the Bn moved in 1991 to Stuttgart. I was with 1/10 and SOCEUR from 93-97 and do not remember a Kumm. We would have had lots of fun with that name...

Yes, I was there for the closing ceremony (and saw Big Al D. cry...) ;)

According to this Vet website he was a Specialist... AFAIK you have to be at least a E-4P to make it to the SFQC, and make E-5 upon qualification.

Something's fishy with this Kumm (pun intended...:D)

makes no mention of being at Devens prior to the move to Carson. or in 1-10 prior.

the 2nd photo (huey) could have been taken at Butts Army Airfield or the FCCO main gate. There is a UH-1 (or was) at both locations.

I'm with MVP, we would have known this guy with a name like that.

Isn't 05B long gone? He says he was in 93-97...

The Vet page lists a couple of different outfits that he's been with. Aviation support, signal and 10th Group...

Well, the MOS is long gone. Yeah, looks like they call a Radio Operator a 25 Charlie now. 95B's are 31B's and God knows what else. Gotta love the new Army...:D

The Kumm-of-sum-young guy hasn't replied to my question on FB yet...

He is probably a nondescript support kid that worked in the BN or GSC BOP. He's now embellishing his story to catch some local "snapper" at the neighborhood Buffalo Wild Wings.....

In my OP. There is a link to a snapshot I took on Facebook. It's a post from USASFC about 10th Group training the Russians at Carson, he replied to it and called it "my old unit". On the other hand, he might be talking about the Russian outfit participating in the exercise...

And, you consider that embellishing:confused:

Just playing devil's advocate here, but if he only said "that's my old unit" and he was a support troop there then it IS his old unit. He's well within his rights to say that, IMHO.

Now if he said " I was Special Forces in that unit" that would be entirely different.

I know what you are saying. Still, I never heard anybody say "I was an MP in the 218th MP Bn.", or for that "I was Special Forces in 10th Special Forces". Normally one would think you are an MP if you claim an MP battallion, or that you're tabbed SF if you claim 10th SFG to be your "unit".

I guess he's not claiming to be qualified SF, but it's still a funny way of putting it and most people would assume he's actually tabbed.

I drank beers in the Ratskeller with the 1-10, can I call it my unit?

I did the very same thing. Plus Kloster Reutberg, Jägerwirt in Gaissach, plus three dozen other places. Skiing trips to the Brauneck not included. My unit? I wish.:)

I was in the 145th Aviation Co, does that imply that I was aviator, or crew chief? I was neither. I was a commo guy, so am I embellishing my service if I say "the 145th Avn Co was my old unit"? The only silver wing on this boy's chest have a parachute on them. :D

Since the 145th Avn Co was part of the 45th Infantry Division (OKARNG), I could also say the 45th Inf Div was my old unit.

Yes, a signal man. Born in June 1970, enlisted about 1993.

Signal Training at Ft. Gordon, a tour in Korea with HHC 307th Signal Battalion (Camp Carrol). May have brought the wife he refers to openly on the Vetfriends Site from Korea to Colorado (his wife "Suki" may want to change her first name, I'm sure she get's a lot of kidding). He left service the next year. Out by 1997 after four years and a maximum rank of Specialist.

As noted, was briefly living in Colorado Springs but was not SF and was never at Ft. Bragg. Being generous, perhaps he was commentng -- with respect to the story about Russians at Ft. Carson -- that "Fort Carson" was a former assignment.

As for the helicopter photo, that's a gloss painted and waxed UH-1B model, you can see then on display all over the United States, sometimes on the ground, sometimes stuck on a pole or a pedestal.
