Just saw a hockey movie called Goons......... This movie will support those that claim this sport is only for fighting and that's the reason people come to watch.......:( I only hope that some day a decent movie will come out showing hockey as what it really is and not this BS they show to the audience

I've never seen the movie, and I'm only a very casual hockey fan (I love watching the Caps b/c they're the home team, but that's about it), but I've never been interested simply because of the fighting. It's probably moreso because the the finesse and control those guys are able to exhibit while on ice skates is so impressive. I watch MMA for fighting. I watch Hockey simply because it's awesome...

Teddy,

I'd wager you were the guy who was always trying to convince everyone that you read Playboy for the cartoons and the interviews - not to look at those photos. :D

And so it goes...

John Wayne as a hockey player........He never seems to surprise me........As a*Green Beret he played a better part, more in line with his talents...........

I've discussed this with other guys on this forum before, especially with Jack Moroney(who was also a hockey player and more in my age bracket).....I was not an Enforcer on the ice,my job as a defenseman was to protect the goalie and make sure that the goons didn't hurt the smaller wings or center....... That did bring on fights but none that I would have started, but did have to finish.........:(

I have to admit I like it when fights break out on the ice, but that is just a small part of it. I really enjoy watching others who have trained and practiced to develop high proficiency and skill in sports or activities in which I do not share that skill.

So it is a pretty big range from basketball to good dancers (like balet and interpretive dance), to equestrian riders and hockey. Just people and athletes that have dedicated themselves to perfecting their craft (I enjoy NFL as well, but the game and training of the individual is quite different).

The grace, speed and agility in which the players move across the ice, add the puck, and then teamwork, is what really appeals to me. Oh sure, I can ice skate, and can go fast, but backwards, stopping and turning on a dime, that's a whole nuther level!

When the words hockey, and goons are mentioned in the same sentence, I think of Dave "The Hammer" Schultz.

Mike Bossy was a purist hockey player who refused to fight. He was a delight to watch on the ice.
