2 flashlight bombs explode in Glendale

Two separate flashlights converted into explosive devices exploded in Glendale Sunday and Monday, causing minor injuries to the hands of the people who picked them up, authorities said.

The flashlights have been described as 9-volt yellow hand-held flashlights that were left outside in the open near businesses, according to Sgt. Brent Coombs, spokesman for the Glendale Police Department.

The first flashlight was found around 1:30 p.m. Sunday and the second was found around 8 a.m. Monday, Coombs said.

On the two separate incidents, someone found the flashlight and when they tried to turn it on, it detonated, Coombs said.

Though the two detonations caused only minor injuries, experts said the flashlights were designed to cause serious damage, Coombs said.

Local and federal agencies were investigating the two incidents, Coombs said.

Anyone who finds an unknown flashlight, any size or color, is encouraged to call the Glendale Police Department immediately at 623-930-3000.

Officials asked people to not touch any unknown flashlights.

This is just laying the groundwork.
Now the anarchists can shut down the venue of their choice by leaving flashlights.
