In my experience from my now former occupation (working for a "nameless" VA contractor that does compensation exams), this dude is spot-on.
Long read, but the claimant examples he lists are incredibly realistic.

Please excuse my ignorance in attaching a proper link if I didn't do it right....

Excellant read and so very true, I did my 20yrs and retired and now I'm working for the VA in a patient care setting and it blows my mind to see what an awful lot of these fellow Veterans are Service Connected for and the percentage. Some were medical dropped in Bootcamp or before completing one year of service and have ratings on 60 - 80 % And then you see a harden Combat Vet with mutliple tours fighting to get 30% (30% or higher opens alot of other doors for you) It's extremely frustrating, but I have also have worked with and seen some of the Dr.'s PA's and or Councelors that are performing these exam ratings and some are very thorough ask questions and do it right and other's just check off the box's on the computer in the medical record and hit save.

Perhaps a more thorough pre-entry physical, combined with rigorous investigations and prosecutions of those who apply for post-service compensation for what could very well be pre-service conditions (remember, you sign a "all this is true to the best of my knowledge" statement on your enlistment/commission paperwork) would help reduce the fraud a little.

Don't even get me started on this one. There are so many out there that are milking the system it's pathetic. I know someone who one bad knee that got 60% disability. Hell I only have 20% with one bad knee and a back that is TOTALLY shot and I'll still work rings around many of the younger generation in the civilian world these days pain and all. That's my problem, I work through the pain and at times it's one hell of a pain that brings tears to your eyes.

Your assessment is right on the money. I would venture to guess that there is not one prior service person who read this thread who could not relate to knowing someone who is taking advantage of the system. In 76 a friend of mine was put out as being unfit to serve, not medically but it was just that as a soldier he sucked. I saw him last year for the first time in 35 years, he is getting 75% disability. He works for the VA and counsels individuals on how to get their claims approved. He retires in two years. I wish he had never told me about his bonanza. The fraud exists because the VA helps to promote it, it keeps them in business. Just because you can screw the govt. does not mean you should, please do not get me started, all I am is a taxpayer.
