This guy should win a prize..

Karl May, who died 100 years ago, was an impostor, a liar and a thief -- and one of Germany's most widely read authors. He embellished his own biography with as much fantasy as the scenarios in his adventure novels, and when the deceit was finally exposed, he never recovered. But his legend lives on.

I think it's a form of "punt" gun. It was used by market hunters for water fowl. Most were mounted on punts, small portable skiffs.

The largest elephant gun was around 1.052 inch. That critter looks quite a bit bigger.

Something in the Punt Gun family?

I used to read Karl May novels when I was an Army dependant growing up in Germany. I was 5-7 years old (1951-53).

I don't believe that May ever left Germany!:D
