Conventional forces suspended use of the T-11 model parachute after a training death last year on post. Lt. Gen. Frank Helmick, commander of the 18th Airborne Corps, said an investigation led to some changes, namely in how the parachute is packed and related training.................."
The T-11 is back in service.

The T-11 is back in service.
I wonder if it's opening shock is anything like the T-7's I've jumped so long ago...We were told we were the last class at Bragg to use them April 1955...... The T-10 was a pussy paracute we used them without that mod they add on after those 101st troppers were hurt and some killed in that mass jump in 1957,just as they were reactivated....BTW,that activation killed the 1th ABN and forced to retire there colors..........:mad:

I have only one T11 jump under my belt. Only complain I could think of was the extra weight and the extra time for the main canopy to open. A lot of the more experienced guys I've spoke to were not a fan of it and said we need to use the MC6. I know that the MC6 was designed for SO units but if a supperior parachute compared to the T11 why not make the switch to the MC6?
Why not use the MC6 instead of the T11? One word, MASTAC........ Could you imagine 4+ C-17s worth of privates, specialists, and buck SGT's under steerable canopies over Sicily DZ? Holy high-altitude-entanglement Batman!

A bunch of guys from my previous unit and I were test jumpers for the T-11. I had jumped the T-10 quite a bit prior, and have to say I prefer that to the big box 'chute. It [T-11] is the opposite of the MC-6; the jumper has almost NO control on where that thing is going. Pull the riser and.....wait for it......by the time it turns a bit you're hitting your first point of contact.
Does it fall slower? Maybe, but I never noticed.

The T-11 is a lot easier to JMPI....I thought it was interesting that they qouted LTC Jon Ring who recently commanded Airborne School....

The new guidance is to have all soldiers attend T11 training at the advanced airborne school. After completion, the jumper then needs to complete 3 jumps until the are considered qualified to jump the chute. 1 day time hollywood, 1 day combat equipment, 1 night combat equipment.
I was on my day time combat jump today and during the jump one soldier had a total malfunction (cigarette roll), but was able to deploy his reserve in time. From a description of what happened last summer on the JOAX it appears to be a similar situation.
And in terms of being easier to JMPI, seems like a hell of a lot more hassle. Then there is the curved pin to the universal static line modified. Nothing like standing there hooked up and having the jumper in front of you have their chute fall off the pack tray.

The T-11 is easier to JMPI. However the MC-6 harness isn't as easy. Jumpers always screw up the new chest strap routing, and the main lift web tuck tab assemblies on the front of the new harness tend to confuse guys. The sizing altogether tends to confuse some. Most think that because they rode a #3 on the old harness that they are the same on the new. But unless you are over 6'1'' or super jacked most jumpers are a 2 with a front sizing of small, medium or large.

I'm with you; all I want, is to jump one chute that every Jump master knows.
Yeah, well, when I was with the Test Platoon at Benning back in '41 we jumped whatever they gave us and wore football helmets...uh, wait, I just saw that in a movie.

One of the happy moments in my life was when I (and three others) were standing in front of my very first Special Forces "company" SGM and he said to me, "You are going to ODA-515 a MFF Team". (That quickly changed to ODA-514 months later.)
I do not like static line jumps.......;)
