Its interesting how the UN is condemning the regime for human rights abuses, but a member of the UN security council is sending troops in to the country to support that same regime. The Russians must really want to keep their cheap oil and Mediterranean seaport lines open. I wonder if they have brought anti-aircraft systems with them...just for demonstration purposes in case the Syrians are in the market...

...................E-Tool combat in Urban Terrain?

according to Deadliest Warrior, it was USSF that used the e-tool in combat.
Spetznatz had that cool spring loaded knife that could take out four glass balls at once. You know in case your attacked by a Christmas tree.

Since Pete's post is in pink, I believe that it is a reference to this post: http://www.professionalsoldiers.com/forums/showpost.php?p=436992&postcount=28

On a more serious note- I could have cared less about Libya but I think we have dropped the ball by not getting more involved in Syria. I thought it would have been a great opportunity to interrupt Iran's supply lines to Hamas and Hezbollah. We may have also missed a chance to help Lebanon return to civility. Now that the Russians are involved, U.S. intervention is highly problematic....

Everything I've read the Russians have passed Saudi Arabia as the world largest oil producer , they want anything but cheap oil, oil sales are currently their whole economy, they are currently a one trick pony. The Syrians apparently already have Russian AA systems in place. Russia supports the current Syrian regime because they are troublemakers who add to regional tension and help keep oil prices high. A peaceful middle east or anything which leads to a massive drop in oil prices cripples Russia.

Gazprom is the largest company in Russia and one of the largest (if not the largest) suppliers of natural gas in the world. Not to mention that many <<новые русские>> (Russian oligarchs) have lined their pockets by, with and through Gazprom. Russia uses their vast supply of natural gas for political ends throughout Europe.

To add to that gazprom has many ex-KGB and ex-stasi folks in their management.Lot of things seem to add up.

Russia has elections but is, in fact, a Mafia-ocracy...
