I found the Yearbook of the Soviet Union 78 at a local used bookstore.

Very interesting reading, now that one can read it with hindsight.

Anyway, here's some excepts I found amusing considering where they went for a holiday the next year.

In the Constitution of the UUSR the Leninist policy of peace, of strenthening the security of the nations and promoting board international cooperation is proclaimed a law.

This means that the Soviet Union will continue its efforts to consolidate universal peace and to deepen and broaden the process of detente.

In its relations with other countries the USSR strictly adheres to the principals of equality, respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, non interference in each others internal affairs and non use of force.

Everything for effective defence, nothing in excess of this- that is the essense of Soviet military policy. The Soviet Union has never armed itself for armament's sake; it has never been and never will be the initiator of an arms race.

Everything the Soviet people are doing in the military field is aimed at safeguarding themselves and their socialist friends against attack, to prevent agression.

If anyone wants anything specific out of the Yearbook, let me know and I'll post it up here.
