The National Rifle Association is already jumping into the 2012 election, warning that a Democratic Senate and reelected president could get a shot at changing the political makeup of the Supreme Court and raining a hail of gun fire on the Second Amendment.
“We can’t afford a strategy of praying for the health of five Supreme Court justices,” said Chris Cox, director of the NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action, in a reference to the one-vote GOP majority on the court of nine aging justices.
Cox said the NRA isn’t waiting for the presidential election to get involved, turning to key Senate races to endorse pro-gun candidates even in primaries. Wednesday, for example, the powerful lobby backed Indiana Treasurer Richard Mourdock over Sen. Dick Lugar in the GOP primary. “The Supreme Court is certainly running in every Senate race in the country,” he told Secrets.
Cox said that his political shop will be helping to arm the public with the administration’s targeting of the Second Amendment and Constitution in what could end up being a historic campaign for the NRA.
Besides warning about how Obama could get another court pick--his third--if one of the older Republicans retired or dies, the NRA plans to remind voters of the Justice Department’s ill-fated “fast and furious” gun running program and other gun issues.
What’s more, his NRA-ILA is drawing attention to how some liberal court justices have been questioning the Constitution. On the group’s website, for example, the NRA is drawing attention to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg comments in a recent New York Times story that she wouldn’t look to the U.S. Constitution if drafting a new constitution and instead would look to the South African Constitution or Canadian Charter of Rights.
“None of this should come as a surprise. One wonders, for example, if Justice Ginsburg even looks to the United States Constitution when interpreting it in 2012,” said the NRA.

Her kind are "up there" thinking lofty thoughts about how to manipulate it so that they go to sleep thinking what a contribution they made, instead of reading the words that were written. It is the worst form of FTFSI, 'cause the Constitution isn't really all that difficult to understand.

Gotta have safe storage. More than two guns requires a "collector's" license. That could start at $100/year, but then raise it to $1,000 per year.
Registration is free, at first. Then $50 for a license and $10 per gun (just to pay for the administrative costs, of course). Raise it to $500 per year, and $100 per gun, over time.
$100 per year range tax. For lead abatement and clean-up. Then $1,000. Then $10,000. Then where do you go to shoot, and why are all the ranges closed?
Watch the guns go away. One at the time, bit by bit.

What I think is that people will keep guns illegally (according to the Gov. at that time)and that will be when the 2nd Amendment will be amended and we will be in the same situation as England............:(

You can have all of the guns you want, but if you cannot buy ammo for them or shoot them anywhere legally, there is not much incentive to own them.
The way you boil a frog is by slowly raising the temperature.
If the first thing Obama did when he was elected was to slap a $2 per gallon tax on gas and raise it to $3.75 a gallon, he would have been impeached. Now, $3 per gallon looks like a great new normal price. Re-elect him and see how high it can go in five more years.

Agreed.
And another potential caveat to this, is that other cash strapped states will see this as a new avenue to collect revenue and some will follow the lead of Illinois. Then municipalities will decide you need to register your guns like your pets and dictate how many can you have.
You might even be required to attend a yearly continued education classes and carry a certain amount of liability insurance to maintain your local permit.....like they do with Contractor Licenses.
And all along the way politicians, insurance companies, etc., etc. are going to 'go along' for the ride because it creates jobs and some can make a buck off it.

Nothing lights my fuze better than anti Second Amendment issues.
All firearm owners continue to donate to the NRA and continue to stockpile ammo.
The NRA has been sounding the alarm on this for some time now(I get their email messages). Speaking of IL, NYC is a fine example of using gun registration to do away with the 2nd: $434.25 for a handgun, $234.25 for a long gun[1]; NYSRPA and the SAF currently have a suit pending with regards to the costs [2][3]. On the topic, an interesting article on the cost benefits of a gun registry, specifically long guns[4][5], there are none. Hell, if our friends north of the border get it, and we don't, then the proverbial crap has indeed hit the national ventilation unit and has spewed far and wide.

So to me this means even if the Republican candidate isn't the one I originally wanted, I will vote for him because even a Northeastern moderate or PA religious nerd or a womanizer is better than Barry O.

I wish it were that cut and dried. Ron Paul could really gum up the works by running as an independant.

Venezuela Suspends Gun Imports for a Year
CARACAS – Venezuelan authorities have established a moratorium on importing guns for sale to the general public, while banning the marketing of munitions and all other armaments in an attempt to “put order” in that sector and exercise some control over the nation’s widespread violence.
The technical secretary of the Presidential Commission for the Control of Arms, Munitions and Disarmament, Pablo Fernandez, said Friday in an interview on state channel VTV that since Feb. 29 “the importing of weapons to Venezuela has been suspended.”
Exempt from the restriction are state security agencies, the armed forces and duly registered security firms.
Fernandez said the measure will allow greater protection for the safety of private citizens, which, he said, “has been degenerating into a state of chaos.”
The suspension of imports is accompanied by other measures, such as “a national process for legalizing the possession of arms,” which will take three months and will serve to register people “with arms acquired legally but without having their papers in order.”
Also contemplated is a control mechanism for arms and munitions that permits their origin to be tracked.
Interior and Justice Minister Tareck El Aissami later told a press conference that the marketing of arms and munitions is also suspended.
“This is not just about imports but also about local gunsmiths, who will no longer be allowed to sell firearms,” the minister told a press conference, adding that “no one is allowed to sell munitions.”
El Aissami said that also prohibited as a consequence of the ban on selling new weapons is the issuing of new licenses to bear arms.
Venezuela has one of the highest murder rates in the region, with 48 homicides for every 100,000 inhabitants annually.
According to government figures, a firearm is involved in 98 percent of homicides in the South American country, and 63 percent of the murder victims were hit with more than five bullets.
