Sean Penn has the worlds most smackable mouth. The moustache he is currently sporting does nothing to disguise its punchability but rather calls attention to it. He is a little undeveloped mentally, but this could be due to his marriage to Madonna, which was bound to burn brain cells at a prodigious rate. He springs from a long line of Hollywood fading stars who try to revive their careers by holding unacceptable views so as to gain any sort of attention to themselves in their desperate scramble for publicity. A half-male Jane Fonda.

You could be right, but with Mr Penn I don't think it's about the typical Hollywood whoredom. Some of his quotes.....

On his views: "I don't consider myself specifically political, you know? I think of working as an actor as being a human thing. The concerns I have that fall into politics are human concerns."

On his country: "I was brought up in a country that relished fear-based religion, corrupt government and an entire white population living on stolen property that they murdered for and that is passed on from generation to generation."

On his profession: "With the Academy Awards, if you're standing there and looking out, you're not going to see many people who can find their butt with their hand."

He's a bit shy and doesn't like working crowds. He's anti-Hollywood. He doesn't like his profession, 99% of the directors, most of his jobs or his co-workers. He dislikes so much about his country that it's hard to find a quote of him saying anything positive. He's a passionately angry man, who truly believes he is more enlightened than the rest of us.

Not the type you want for "diplomat."

He's a passionately angry man, who truly believes he is more enlightened than the rest of us.That's a large group; I wonder how they'd take being counted as such and realizing they are less than an anchovy. Unfortunately they also get elected to very high office.

Well - there is a precedent in Shirley Temple Black and Mr Penn did manage to officially purchase the title Goodwill Ambassador to Haiti...

I think the crowd he hangs around with sometimes become confused over their roles in real life, hollyweird life, and the perceived-life of their titular pseudo-ambassadorships they're handed as a reward for their money laundering support of places most of us would not choose to live.

Poh-tay-toh, poh-tah-toh...toh-may-toh, toh-mah-toh...falk-lands, mal-dives...whatever...

Wake me up when he manages to utter something intelligent - that would be news.

And so it goes...

MOO, the fact that Penn is a blithering, self-important asshat who uses his celebrity and his money to promote disagreeable political views is not a valid excuse for not checking one's facts. Penn earned his second Oscar and fifth nomination in 2008. Last year, he won critical acclaim for his performance in The Tree of Life (2011) which received three Oscar nominations. As he makes eclectic choices, his films tend to perform modestly--his movies have generated only about $1.98 billion in global ticket sales (when one adjusts for inflation). Nevertheless, the movie industry treats him as an A-lister <<LINK (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/celebrity/sean_penn/news.php)>>. This treatment persists not because of his politics or his personality, but because he can put asses in seats and still do artistically excellent work. In short, Mr. Penn is many things, but a "fading star" he is not.

Filmmakers and actors who make public their personal and political views understand that they're risking their careers because millions of movie goers are going to disagree with those views and vote with their wallets.* MOO, this dynamic merits contemplation the next time one makes the choice between rocking the boat and going along to get along at the workplace.

My $0.02.

Mr Penn,
I wish you the best of luck in your journey to find a place that is worthy of your expectations; I wish you only the best as you search for a place where your spirit feels alive, free, and most of all, at home. I hope you can someday realize your dream of living in a nation with a government of the people, by the people, for the people. I pray that your spirit takes you to a place where there is no corruption in government, no military industrial complex behind the scenes that lobbies its leaders to conflict so they can benefit from the dark capitalist habit of war profiteering. I wish for your success in finding a nation whose people sincerely care about the nations people; where poverty has been stricken from the public consciousness, where those who would attempt to redistribute wealth are looked at as shepherds of the less fortunate instead of demonized as "socialists" or "communists" or even worse referred to as "liberals"...
...all of these things I wish for you. if your dreams are recognized they will surely lead to a more peaceful, productive world. One that is safer and more secure for all of us.

Until then, I cordially invite you to go fuck your self, you whiny, miserable, elitist self important prick.

Have a nice day.

That's what happens when you have a lot of money...you get the false idea that you must be very important. Nothing new really.

I think that is a huge problem with Hollywood in this country. They have this self inflated image that since they are of such star status, they use said status to jump up on the soapbox and tell everyone else how things should be done.

The sad part is that half of the country listens to them due to being obsessed with this stardom, opinionated facebook and twitter bullshit.

Fuck them, I can live without any more movies. They could all fall into the pacific and let the rest of us get on with our lives.

Can you blame them? They are told that they are very special and important everyday...and that gets to their head.

You watch, couple two-three years from now, this schmuck will be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Hey, they got that dick-smack Manning up for it this year. Why not REALLY show how insignificant this "award" has become by having the ex Mr. Madonna be present in Oslo to receive his most justly deserved reward.
