1)This is the type of CA activities that should have happened all along.
Why have they waited 20 yrs??

2)Going to the Kalifornicate's to get the education,, Pure Pork-Barrel Funding...
I'm betting the Agricultural Development is looking for reciprocity. Hoping the they can get some insider hints on the Aphgani's superior cultivation techniques as it pertains to the local crops that have a hi-return rate on capital investments??

Lets face it, a guy that grew up on a farm or ranch is better than a city kid taking a month long course on agriculture.
I agree. We had a really good agriculture department and FFA program at the High School that I attended. Like myself, many of the students lived in the rural area of the county where they grew crops and raised livestock. Interesting that many of them later joined the military.

Pushing this type of knowledge to a wider base of Soldiers may be a new expansion of this program, but they are not quite as behind as it might seem from this article. We have sent at least two Agricultural Development Teams from the Arkansas Guard in the past 3 years or whatever. I believe the second team recently got back so the first team deployed a minimum of two years ago now. IIRC, they are comprised of Soldiers within the state (and possible augmented from outside) who work on or run their own farms already and don't require much training at all to take those skills and transfer them to Afghanistan. A platoon or similar sized security element goes with them.

Yes this is a day late and dollar short. Along with many other programs we have out there. Many SF Fire Bases were doing in the early years, but most stopped due to mission set changes and command directives.
Yes Okie your right.. CA doesn't have the knowledge it did five years ago. Yes your right on the advance course for CA positions and maybe making new MOS. 21B needs to have that background your talking about, but it is about numbers within CA pipeline too. SO yes I too feel that advance course or local civilian training should be done.
No easy fix IMHO.
