CAIR Controls Who Speaks at West Point

Muslims, Atheists Pressure Military to Remove Christian Speaker

The U.S. Military Academy pressured a retired U.S. lieutenant general to withdraw from speaking at a West Point prayer breakfast after Muslims and atheists complained, Fox News & Commentary has learned.

Retired Lt. Gen. William Boykin was scheduled to deliver a speech at West Point on Feb. 8. But late Monday, the military academy released a statement saying he had decided to withdraw from speaking and would be replaced with another speaker.

However, a source close to the controversy told Fox News & Commentary that Boykin was pressured to withdraw.

“It was very clear they wanted General Boykin to withdraw,” said the source who asked not to be identified. “He asked them to rescind the invitation, but they were reluctant to do that so he said he would take them off the hook.”

Theresa Brinkerhoff, a spokesperson for West Point, told Fox News & Commentary that the U.S. Military Academy “did not decide this for him.”

“After a conversation with our chaplain, Lt. Gen. Boykin decided to withdraw,” Brinkerhoff wrote in an email.

Boykin, a former senior military intelligence officer, had been criticized for speeches he made at evangelical Christian churches where he said that American’s enemy is Satan, that God had put President Bush in the White House and that a Muslim Somali warlord was an idol-worshipper.

He later issued a written statement apologizing and said he didn’t mean to insult Islam.

However, Boykin became a target for atheists and Muslim groups. They launched a campaign to force the military to remove the retired lieutenant general from the West Point prayer event.

“Mr. Boykin’s intolerant views do a disservice to our nation’s longstanding traditions of religious freedom and pluralism and could potentially harm our country’s interests and the security of our troops overseas,” Nihad Awad, executive director of the Council on American Islamic Relations, wrote in a letter to the superintendent of West Point. “By providing a platform associated with West Point, Mr. Boykin’s hate-filled rhetoric would receive a level of credibility and legitimacy it does not deserve.”

Awad called Boykin an Islamophobe.

“It gives Islamophobes a platform at the nation’s most prestigious military academy,” Awad told the Associated Press. “And I doubt that they would invite a KKK speaker and claim that they want to expose the students to a variety of opinions.”

CAIR joined VoteVets.org and the Military Religious Freedom Foundation in protesting Boykin’s speech.

Mikey Weinstein, the president of Military Religious Freedom Foundation heralded the military’s move as a victory and called Boykin a “vile Islamophobe.”

“We are deeply saddened that it took a public outcry of this magnitude to cause Boykin to pull out from this event, likely under pressure from within the Pentagon,” Weinstein said in a press release. “Our outcry must not stop – all individuals within the command structure responsible for inviting this vile Islamophobe must be held accountable via courts martial.”

Boykin told Fox News & Commentary that he was extremely disappointed in what has happened.

“I came under attack because there are liberal groups, Islamic groups and atheist groups that want to shut me down because I have been very open about my concerns about the encroachment of Sharia – or Islamic law,” he said.

Boykin said he planned on delivering a speech about the importance of prayer in a leader’s life.

“It was an ecumenical presentation,” Boykin said. “It had nothing to do with Islam.”

Boykin would not comment on reports that he was pressured to step aside, only to say that he considered the commandant of West Point to be a “good friend of mine – and a very good man.”

Tony Perkins, the president of the Family Research Council, was outraged by the decision.

“This has gone too far,” Perkins told Fox News & Commentary. “This is a troubling trend that we are seeing under this administration.”

Under the Obama Administration both Perkins and Franklin Graham were disinvited from speaking at military prayer services.

“When you talk to military leaders on the base, they don’t like this,” Perkins said. “There seems to be pressure coming from within the administration to sweep Christianity off the face of military bases.”

Boykin said he doesn’t believe the Obama administration has stood with the traditional values of the nation and he said the incident at West Point should serve as a wakeup call to Christians.

“The message is that people of faith and conservative Americans are losing our voice to a very well-organized and very well-funded group of very passionate people – those being the atheists and the Muslims,” Boykin said. “They want to change the nature of our culture – and they are succeeding.”

Perkins pointed to the Obama administration’s policies banning Christian prayers at National Cemetery in Houston and a ban on Bibles at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

“It’s time Americans realized that while these orders may not have been signed by the president, this environment has been created by him and his policies,” Perkins said.

Boykin accused the Obama administration of not standing with people of faith – “certainly not people of the Christian faith or Jewish faith.”

“If there has been support in this administration for faith it has been more skewed towards the Islamic faith than anything else,” Boykin said.

Perkins said the biggest and most troubling concern is how Boykin has been treated.

“The man they have disinvited is a true American hero who has spilled his own blood on foreign soil for this country,” Perkins said. “He has done so much to defend the ideals and the freedom that American stands for. Yet his own freedoms – that he fought to protect for others – have been taken from him.”

I have as much respect for islam as it has for me.

I will grant that as a Catholic, I am not without some dark spots on the history of my religion. The difference is, we outgrew that stuff while islam still advocates, endorses, and promises reward for the reckless slaughter of anyone not following their rules.

That being said, I'll agree with Streck, and go one step further: We've learned nothing since these barbarians first decided about 1,300 years ago it was a good idea to start killing in the name of their religion.

That being said, I'll agree with Streck,

Just to clarify, I was mostly referring to military leadership and their adherence to PCness by taking the pacifist role when relating to Muslims that choose to take offense at anything and everything that acknowledges the realities of their religion/culture.

Your enemy, Islam, has learned well from the Communist tactics of terrorist warfare perfected over many years in Africa, Asia and some parts of South America and Cuba. These tactics are to assess your enemy and in establishing his strengths, use those same strengths against him. The terrorist will use the innate sense of fair-play that Western nations have and turn it against them. While the terrorist will hold the West to the highest standards of morality and impartiality, they will not for a moment hold themselves to these standards.
The terrorist will use every phrase and sentiment in the bible capable of being twisted to their advantage, but never accept that they should be held to any inconvenient values in their own book. They will use the Wests merciful and humane justice system to further their own ends, whilst never deviating from their own barbaric and vengeful system of laws. The terrorist will aim to beguile your religious leaders and turn them against you and many of these leaders will follow like sheep, being fairly gullible in the first place. The terrorist will look to your most effective fighting units and bombard them with negative propaganda, often helped by the useful fools who because of their well-meaning natures are ready to denounce their own in the spirit of trying to be the ultimate in morality.
We in South Africa saw this at first hand. Our religious leaders were subverted. Our religions were infiltrated by trojan-horse enemy who played on the good nature of the congregations and in time subverting them too.
America, cherish your strengths. Your freedom to bear arms, freedom of religion, freedom of the press and freedom of association, but be aware that these freedoms are being targeted and attacked by a wily and patient enemy whose sole aim is your destruction.

Kind of like this....
Previously, at a 1995 conference held by the Muslim Arab Youth Association (MAYA ) in Toledo, Ohio, Qaradawi called for the conquest of Western regimes and the implementation of shari'a not through armed conflict, but through Da'wa (proselytization):

"What remains, then, is to conquer Rome. The second part of the omen. 'The city of Hiraq [once emperor of Constantinople] will be conquered first,' so what remains is to conquer Rome. This means that Islam will come back to Europe for the third time, after it was expelled from it twice… Conquest through Da'wa [proselytizing] that is what we hope for. We will conquer Europe, we will conquer America! Not through sword but through Da'wa."

I figure it would be the Superintendant (an LTG) who would be the arbiter of such things at the USMA. Anybody ever hear of VoteVets?

The speaking engagement is for a prayer breakfast, which is generally not a "must attend". Given LTG Boykin's background, his presence at the breakfast would probably have given attendance a real shot in the arm. As it stands now, I would bet the breakfast will get a very small group of those cadets willing to give up valuable eat/sleep/study time to go hear a low-profile replacement flap their gums.

I know several USMA graduates all over Bragg who would feel the same as well.

Dhimmitude....at West Point?!???!?

Sure, I had a discussion with some in the "joint" community who views the LTG as PNG thanks to the book, but still endorses his calling a spade a spade

Bill Warner poses some excellent questions in his latest piece. Some that many on this board have had for years.

The Grand Lie and West Point

Recently the West Point Military Academy denied retired LTG Jerry Boykin, a candid speaker about Islam, a chance to be at a prayer breakfast at West Point. The usual suspects not only didn’t want any discussion that might involve Islam, they didn’t even want someone who had spoken about it in the past.

U.S. Army doctrine "instructs Army leaders to respect [emphasis added] the Muslim culture as a part of counterinsurgency operations," VoteVets said in a letter to West Point Superintendent Lieutenant General David Huntoon. Boykin's past remarks "threaten our relationship with Muslims around the world, and thereby, our troops serving in harm's way," said VoteVets, which represents veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

This is not the first time that our military has rejected someone who knows about the doctrine and history of Islam from speaking. The first causality was Steve Coughlin in 2008 under George Bush. Steve is an expert on Sharia and Islamic war doctrine who worked at the Pentagon. He was terminated after a complaint by a Muslim.

For an illustration of the “know nothing about Islam” doctrine see General Stanley McChrystal’s Afghanistan war strategy that made no mention of Islamic war doctrine.

At least our military is consistent over time. They know nothing about Islamic war doctrine. They see nothing. They hear nothing. They think nothing. They speak nothing. And they will not listen to anyone who does, not even one meeting.

It is odd that an organization devoted to war, fighting and conflict cannot even stage a discussion, much less a debate, about what part Islamic doctrine plays in Islamic war. But, no, our military commanders have taken up the position that there is only one view of Islam, that which pleases Islam, that of a dhimmi, and that any position that is not submissive to Islam is bigotry. [An editorial observation: the higher you go in rank, the more PC the officer becomes. The lower ranks are much more enlightened about Islam.]

Our military fully subscribes to the Grand Lie of Islam—there is only one valid view of Islam, that which pleases Muslims.

But, there are three views of Islam, not one. Take the example of the day that Mohammed murdered 800 male Jews in Medina, after he sold off the women for slaves and adopted the Jewish children into Muslim families. What was the nature of this event? There are three views:

• For Muslims this was a day of absolute good as Islam triumphed over the evil Jews who had denied the prophet-hood of Mohammed.
• For Kafirs (non-Muslims) this was an act of evil.
• Then there is the view of the apologist for Islam—let’s not be judgmental. That was then, and this is now. Christians have done worse.

Our military has adopted the view of the apologist, the Grand Lie. To be fair, they have been pushed into the PC camp by their civilian bosses. It is just that somehow, you hope that men, who can fight a war that goes “bang”, could also fight a war of ideas that goes “think”. Whatever happened to: “Know the enemy”?

Instead we have a military doctrine of “respect” for Islam. How about trading in respect for full knowledge of the jihad doctrine and civilizational war? Who has ever heard of the military (or police) ever using any knowledge found in Koran about war? The Koran of Medina devotes 24% to jihad, 9% overall. The Sira (Mohammed’s biography) devotes 67% of its text to jihad and 21% of Bukhari’s Hadith is devoted to jihad. Nearly a third of the Trilogy is about jihad.

You think that the Taliban and al Qaeda don’t read Koran, Sira and Hadith? General SK Malik of the Pakistani army wrote a book, The Quranic Concept of War, that is REQUIRED reading of ALL general staff officers in Pakistan. A favorite quote: “Whatever the form or type of strategy directed against the enemy, it must, in order to be effective, be capable of striking terror into the hearts of the enemy.”

Hello, Pentagon, FBI, CIA, DEA, DHS and the rest, the clue phone is ringing, pick it up. Stop respecting Islam by code and really respect Islam and study its doctrine of war. Read the Sira first. Read the jihad hadiths next. Finally, read the Koran of Medina. Meditate on civilizational war. Then invite LTG Jerry Boykin back to speak.

It will never happen. We have adopted a thought process of "if we treat them with respect, we'll be treated with respect in return" because we are looking at them through OUR eyes and OUR beliefs, not their own.

It is more about us holding to our own values and our own best practices.

Towards the end of the Second World War, the Morgenthau Plan called for the pastoralization of Germany. The objective of the original plan was to end permanently the threat Germans were believed to pose to the international security of all nations. Fortunately, American and British statesmen developed alternatives that were closer to western values, within the realm of possible policy options, and reflected confidence in the strength of Western culture.
