Anyone know anything about past ops in the Congo (DRC), in terms of what towns tend to be be good spots for bases, crossroads, LZs, supply hub, etc?

Word is all or some of the SoF troops in Uganda have moved to forward bases in the Congo in order to support ops against the LRA.

Kisangani has been a center of activity in the past.

Anyone up on the Congo?

There was a huge Belgian built base near Kaminaville with a C141 compatable airfield. It was supposed to be the Belgian Govt. HQ when WW3 nuke type broke out in Europe.
All built with brick/concrete.

it was almost two years ago that Operation Olympic Chase started up. it was a train up of a Light Infantry BN in the DRC and it was at Camp Base just outside of Kisangani. One of the motivations for the Operation was to establish a professional trained force to counter LRA activities in the DRC.
(this is all open source info)

most of the actual trainers were contractors but (thankfully) they were supervised every step of the way by SF. elements of SOCCE HOA were sent out to provide an AOB and run the OPS center with an ODA out of 10th running the contractors.

there are other places to base out of but Kisangani would be an obvious choice. Centrally located with an airfield and river access.

A big problem would be the use of Ugandan troops in the DRC. we played hell just getting Ugandan well drillers in the DRC to upgrade Camp Base. Uganda and DRC are not the friendliest of neighbors.
