At least He's not claiming SEAL team 6... :munchin

Never was a SNIPER but I do have step-ons,,
Maybe he needs to talk it out??
Not something I'd look to make money on..
And sit there with that shiite-eaten-grin...

He's also claiming no black ops, nothing classified.........In my previous business of selling military books on Ebay,I'd probably contact him to purchase about a dozen books...... First editions, first printing and signed(signature only)......... A book like his would be an excellent investment and I'm sure a good seller.......;) :D

is it a custom to brag about the number of enemy one has killed?

Customary,, I think not,, It is something you have to deal with on a personal level,, and not everyone deals with it the same way..

Not particularly in the "real world".

His count is "amazing". :munchin

This kind of count has a long history and is sometimes a matter of military record that comes up when someone writes a book and the count is published without knowledge of the shooter.

If the Jesse V. bar encounter is true, that's pretty funny. Kyle got to do what many have wanted to do for years. :D

"There's a time to STAND UP, and a time to SHUT UP". Poor Jesse got them confused. All Kyle did was to explain the difference of the two.

I'm not trying to start anything here... Seriously, I'm just looking for a little direction. That being said, is his number even probable? I was thinking of picking up the book, but I don't want to waist my time or money on another Marcinko book.

TIA

Yes, it is possible given the situation in certain times and locals.

I would think it would be easier to get a count like that in the desert AO ranther than a jungle AO. Hat's off to him, though.

For what a random/non MIL public review is worth, the book was a good read. The actual publishing of such a memorandum aside, Kyle presented himself in a humble and straightforward, if somewhat choppy, manner. There was very little gravy editing in this one, and you can tell......Texas FTW.

There were also short excerpts throughout the book from his wife and the effects his deployments/frame of mind affected home life.

There was very little mentioned in the book about actual numbers. He did, however, make constant references to being EXTREMELY lucky behind the scope. Much like deer season for some, engagements seemed to wait until he was glassed.

It's a okay book, the stories I found interesting, but it didn't have me glued to the pages.

You're welcome to my copy.

Actually, in Falluja, they took the highest building and installed a bunch of Spec Ops snipers, SF, SEAL, and "others". they had a good old time whacking anyone with a weapon for several weeks. It was so bad that the bad guys, during the "truce" asked specifically that the snipers be removed. Same occurred a number of times in different cities but same results. They did not like the snipers.

In the desert, the original sniepr rifles were 7.62 and they learned to stay just out of range, then came the 300, 338 and to a smaller degree the .50. And before any jumps up and says teh .50 got long range kills, understand the vast majority were being shot semi auto at a GROUP of bad guys hitting one after several rounds were fired. Another words, an area target was engaged with a point target eventually hit. :munchin :D

IN all honesty and in full disclosure, I will admit that I am not a fan of the Barrett .50 nor any of that company's products. :)

Only since you brought it up...when I was attending the armorer course at Crane, they showed us pictures of a M107 that suffered a failure causing the receiver to rupture upward into the shooter's face. Tore him up pretty well.

I have no idea how common that is.

Longrange,

Would you care to expound on your dislike of Barrett? I'll understand if you choose to keep it to yourself.

Ventura is now suing Chris Kyle for defamation in court. I guess no good deed goes unpunished...

They're too heavy and too loud. :D

I read that book, and I half expected to see a recipe from his wife stuck in there somewhere.

Not to take away from his shootin', though. At least he got in the shit...

Also not accurate enough, too many failures to feed, extract, move into battery, too expensive and he charged the army to fix his screw ups on the original Barretts that went to Desert Storm.

That's enough for now, MOO, but I got tired of trying to make excuses to students when were shooting them on the range.
