I'm not sure I agree with all of the assumptions in this BBC documentary, but some of the historic information is very very interesting, it's a long doco, but well worth the view.
I'd be very interested in discussion, I may get around to making some sound bits later.
WARNING: This is lefty stuff, but always interesting to see the other guys argument
CAVET: I am not a lefty

Pete's got a point,I think he's right.........:D ;)

I think Pete hit the nail on the head in respect to Islam. The planned process, people and connections brought up in the series are what I can read on Infowars on a daily basis.
However, our media and politicians spin fear in many ways. Look no further than the continued assault on guns and latest headline from Eric Holder about the evil guns. I have met people who are afraid of guns, there is no real reason other than they have been taught to fear them.
I think TSA would be a good example of BiG Gov pressing the fear factor of imaginary foes.
People around my area hover over their kids 24/7/365 so they are isolated from the perceived evils that lurk the streets. Which in my opinion sets your child up disaster when they get out on their own and away from the protective cloak.....But their are plenty of books and professionals that think my line of thinking is Child Endangerment.
We have a every growing list of rules and regulations that are meant to 'Keep US Safe' which come from bureaucracies & bureaucrats who supposedly have a better idea of what is good for me. And less and less are these guideline but are in fact LAW telling me how to live. Instruction manuals for power tools are a great resource.
Another and my favorite ill conceived fear is skin color.......
About 2nd grade No. 1 daughter came home from school to inform her parents that we had 'bad' kids in school. How do you know they are bad kids? Everyone says they are bad? How do your friends know? The answer was they are Black.
No. 1 got a major scolding and instructed to go talk to the Girl in her class the next day. The next evening No. 1 returned to tell Mom and Dad that the girl was really nice...and they remain friends to this day.
A caveat to that, is that I drove the ladies to Arrowhead for a soccer match through the back streets to avoid traffic one time. When we arrived at 75th & Gregory I heard the doors lock. When I inquired as to why they wanted the doors locked, the response was that we were in a bad part of town. I asked how do you know we are in a bad part of town and the response was 'all the Black people'. When I asked how they knew Black people were bad, the answer was because it is what we see on the News.
That said, the series is correct in the creation of fear, but it's perception of Islam as a trumped up evil is ill conceived.

When the government feels the need to protect people from themselves, it is time for the people to protect themselves from the government.

I notices a few years ago while driving through a neighborhood that the streets were empty. It hit me that there were no kids playing in the streets like there used to be.
The fear mongering has gone way way to far.In Afghanistan that's called Situational Awareness.

I'll agree with that. Some of my good friends don't let their kids walk down the street in safe neighborhoods because of the fear of kidnapping etc... And lots of kids spend way too much time in front of a playstation. How did we get all these obese kids?

Your answer precedes your question.
