SEOUL, South Korea – DEVELOPING: Kim Jong Il, North Korea's mercurial and enigmatic leader, has died. He was 69.
Kim's death was announced Monday by state television from the North Korean capital, Pyongyang.
Kim is believed to have suffered a stroke in 2008 but appeared relatively vigorous in photos and video from recent trips to China and Russia and in numerous trips around the country carefully documented by state media.
The leader, reputed to have had a taste for cigars, cognac and gourmet cuisine, was believed to have had diabetes and heart disease.
The news came as North Korea prepared for a hereditary succession. Kim Jong Il inherited power after his father, revered North Korean founder Kim Il Sung, died in 1994.
In September 2010, Kim Jong Il unveiled his third son, the twenty-something Kim Jong Un, as his successor, putting him in high-ranking posts.

The MSM never ceases to educate/amaze me. I never knew "mercurial and enigmatic" was the Politically Correct way of saying "batshit crazy". Good riddance to bad rubbish. Hopefully somebody gets ambitious and his son(s) suffer an untimely fate. Maybe then the North Korean people will have a chance to improve their lot and maybe join the rest of the world.

his son kin jong-un took power as successor, and he looks like he's ready to fall over from obesity soon, won't give him long. Doesn't really look like someone ready to be a leader, can't wait to see what happens :D
preparations for the biggest group crying festival/kim's funeral have already begun in NK.

The passing of the Froot-Loops should be a splendid display...
Wonder how they are going to get enough people fed in order for them to be strong enough to stand along the parade route...??
So "Great" leader begat "Dear" leader... wonder what the next one is?
Anybody in Vegas taking odds or did I miss the announcement?

Refrains from "Won't Get Fooled Again" come to mind, or was that for the 2012 elections?

Report on NBC states right after the death announcment Baby Kim fired a short/med. range missle as a show of force. I imagine shortly after the round left the tube, Baby Kim was on the horn to big brother China. "Told ya, I'm just like my daddy!" :D

Funny thing was the BBC report that came out at just prior to 0400 Eastern had the following quote in it...
It also has a reputation for provocative external action in response to internal pressures.
"Often in times like this, the regime will do something to demonstrate that it is still viable, powerful, still a threat," said Dane Chamorro, a regional director at risk consultancy Control Risks.
"It might be a missile test, some type of aggression or conflict."
Talk about predictability....
One line of thought, that I feel is plausible, is that Kim died quite some time ago. I believe that it is possible for this to have been kept secret for some time, only to be revealed at a time of thier choosing, or having lost the ability to keep the fact a secret any longer.
Unfortunately as stated above, there are plenty more wakjobs waiting to take his place.

Hard to confirm or deny anything that goes on internally...
The promotion of the son to "general" announced in September as an indicator as to who would be next.

But is the kid crazy enough to be able to step into his father's shoes? Some of the media outlets are reporting that the son has questioned his own ability to take control.
Should be interesting to see how this all plays out. Regardless, I doubt we will see a positive outcome.

Now, if we could get close enough to Al Zawahiri to put round between his eyes all would be good...

And Mullah Omar too....

I have a feeling that Barry will announce THAT one right before the election next year, to help "bolster" his sagging numbers.
He can't take credit for ALL of them at once now. :D

What with the Arab Spring, OBL and this dingbat going down there seems some cause to celebrate. However, we old Africa hands know in our heart of hearts, that there are many worse lunatics waiting in the wings to take the places of the fallen. The people who were ruled by the iron fists of these dictators got into that situation largely because of their own shit-headedness. Politicians the world over will always take whatever they can, if only their people let them. In short, what we see here are power vacuums waiting to be filled and because the people of these countries have not fundamentally changed, they will allow new dingbat leaders to abuse them.

The kid...he WILL be (crazy enough) by the time the "Aunt" and "Uncle" and all the rest of the aparati get done with him. They will MOST DEFINITELY keep him in line. Did you see that satellite image of the darkness that is the North? He screws up he either gets tossed outside the wire or has a "swimming" incident this February... Not much food for those off the "A" list and ham-chunk didn't get to look like that suffering alongside the masses...
Listening to the MSM I just want to gag over some of their accolades concerning how brilliant the departed one was. Its reported he spent $800,000.00 a year on his favorite brand of cognac, meanwhile his loyal subjects boiled grass for sustenance.
Sen. McCain said it best:
“The world is a better place now that Kim Jong-il is no longer in it. For more than six decades, people in North Korea have been consigned to lives of dire poverty and cruel oppression under one of the most totalitarian regimes the world has ever known. I can only express satisfaction that the Dear Leader is joining the likes of Qaddafi, Bin Laden, Hitler, and Stalin in a warm corner of hell.
