If you haven't been to South Dakota pheasant hunting, you really should go. They don't call it the pheasant capital of the world for nothing.

I would say that qualifies as a fine ending to a great day of hunting!

What area of the state were you hunting? I grew up there and one could say I know my way around a pheasant haha.

Some mighty fine eating there! Stuff one with wild rice and mushrooms for me... Well Done!

We were hunting out a small town called Winner, South Dakota. Lots of pheasants. Hell, the entire area was set up for pheasant hunting. Holiday Inn Express had a heated dog kennel to put hunting dogs in (with signs posted that prohibited pheasant cleaning on the property). CRP fields had strips of milo or millet. Fantastic hunt. Really big whitetails around also.

Friends and I went back to South Dakota last month. Hit a little different weather this year, and the hunting was simply amazing. The big light colored dog, Scar, probably had 100 points on the day I took this photo. Kate, attired in the orange vest, was on her 2d pheasant trip, and hunted like a dream.

I assume these are free range birds? I've only hunted pheasant once at a release/shoot operation in PA. It was amazing and the birds were really jumpy. The old man taunts me with stories of walking out the back door and going pheasant hunting when he was a kid but those days in central MD are long gone. Envious.
