He leaves congress as a multi millionaire and will spend the next decade making so much money off peddling his influence that his net worth today will look paltry. Scumbags like Frank are the real reason why this country is in the crapper. He screwed the public to enrich himself for 16 years and now he'll get the chance to make really big bucks by extorting the very corporations his entire time in congress vilifying. Good riddance. Hopefully he'll step in front of a truck on the way out.....

Newt didn't spend 16 years of his life trashing corporations calling them immoral all the time while making millions, but your larger point isn't lost. They all game the system to enrich themselves. Frank pisses me off because he condemns big buisness for doing exactly what he does. At least they are up front about it.

Rubberneck - I think it was 16 TERMS, NOT 16 YEARS. That puts him at 32 years. He's been tonsil-jockeying up in the people's republik at least as long as I've been in the Army (I've been afraid to go home with him in Congress...).

You're right. 32 years and millions of dollars in the bank account later. I can live with the graft but the trillions of dollars in subprime debt he and his boy friend at Fanny Mae left hanging around our necks is inexcusable. He should be drawn and quartered for going on national tv and telling the public that fanny/freddy were fiscally sound when he knew that was a bald faced lie.

If Newt is the Republican candidate, Obama IS re-elected. It is that simple.
While Frank has prostituted himself, politically - as well as sexually, to me, that is to be expected from one of his political ilk. Newt Gingrich is another matter. He epouses the "Republican ethic", yet misses NO opportunity to grease his politicall palm, no matter the depths of degradation to to so (read: FreddieMac).
Frank is bad. IMHO, Gingrich is worse. He is like an SF soldier who disgraces the Regiment to make a buck (hmmmm, several come to mind). I can excuse someone who is NOT part of the "brotherhood" for being a "snake" - for that is what they do. For someone who espouses to be "in the right" yet acts conversely... there is no forgiveness from me.
At least we will be rid of one more oxygen thief. Hopefully the people of Massachussets will elect someone with some common sense to replace him.

McCain had a piece in this Sunday's "Arizona Repugnant... I mean Republic" stating that this election could be very "anti-incumbent". Perhaps Frank is retiring to allow another Dem to run who won't be "tainted" by being an incumbent, thereby saving the seat for his party...

Already wealthy, probably figured it's time to go play some golf at one of the fancy resort courses he built and take war-chest along too.

My gut tells me perhaps he is being investigated....there were some real crimes that happened over at Fanny* and Freddie ( * not just a pun). I hope he goes down...........(Edit) :D The consume-mate politician!
