View Full Version : Land nav practice spots in San diego
Anyone know of any areas you could practice land navigation? Every park ive herd of says you must not leave the trail for whatever reason. Me and a friend wish to buddy up and practice. Im in San diego, coronado. I believe this is the proper thread to post this in.

How about Fiesta Island? Otay lakes? Cuyamaca just to name a few.......Try finding some canyons as well. There is a big one behind the Naval Hospital and around Balboa park. Shoot across terrain and navigate through stuff, its a pain but it will hone your skills.

The Warner Springs area is pretty desolate and has plenty of different types of terrain features.

I think the warning is for vehicles and amateur hikers. I doubt if it would be a problem in Cleveland Nat'l Forest.

You can source existing (laid out) courses in your area through your local Orientering Federation or ROTC.
Contact either group, both tend to be pretty helpful, as long as your organized and professional. I had a couple of ROTCs even invite me and the misses out to an FTX or two.
Fort Hunter Liggit in NorCal has a great run that I really enjoyed. Make a weekend out of it?
