If I recall, aren't these guys forbidden from consuming alcohol? So maybe a Root Beer?

Three years ago, I went to Arlington NC to bury my Brother, LTC (RET) Robert T. Soetaert. After the services his buddie and I visited JFK's grave and went to the TOMB OF THE UNKNOWN SOLDIER.

The 3rd Infantry performed magnificently. We watched the Guard change and it was an impressive site. The Officer of the Guard was a young 1LT with only a NDSM ribbon on his chest but the Sergeant of the Guard was an E-7 with a CIB and BS ribbon. The NCO stopped in the middle of the posting to chatise a young (15-16 yo) girl for laughing during the ceremony. He didn't try to embarass her, but her Father told her to "knock it off!'

Lot's of rumors about them, but mostly exaggerated. You can find Q&A about them at
http://www.tombguard.org/site.html

The average tour at the Tomb is about a year. There is NO set time for service there. The Sentinels live either in a barracks on Ft. Myer or off base if they like. They do have living quarters under the steps of the amphitheater where they stay during their 24 hour shifts, but when they are off, they are off. And if they are of legal age, they may drink anything they like, except while on duty.

So we are all welcome to buy them whatever beverage they prefer -- and deserve!
