Well there I was, waiting to meet the Supreme Commander and entourage at the Honolulu airport....they just happened to be on the same plane as a bunch of NFL weenies who were arriving for the Pro Bowl. Joe Theisman had his golf clubs along and a women who looked quite young. :D
But lest anyone be too impressed that I recognized him...he was pointed out to me. At least I recognized his name as being that of a football player!
I was actually suprised that the NFL folks really weren't that large. I always imagined they would be much bigger guys.

You are either a mutant, extremely unimpressable, or haven't met a lineman yet.

I met a few of the Hogs (who would be very small by today's standards) years ago in Hawaii and they were huge.

The only non-Patriots player I've met was a former O-lineman who was known as "Big Ed" from Tulane breed and player for the Saints. Aside from his enormous size I learned a valuable lesson from him. If in trouble with a large NFL lineman type, go for the knees, they go down like a sack of bricks. Front 3-4 on D and O-lineman have notoriously bad knees. It probably won't save you from a charging attack, but in a confrontation situation a quick blow to either knee might allow you enough time to escape.

Aside from that, I read a report in the Washington Post that 50% of NFL players are now packing, so perhaps they are wise to their weakness and are now scrambling to fill that gap with boom sticks.

P36, next time you see Joe Theisman, just for fun, remember to shout very loudly and in a worried voice, "Oh my god is that Lawrence Taylor! He's coming right towards us!"

The one player I'd fear to face in any situation would be Vincent Brown. Former Left Inside Linebacker for the Patriots. The man had defined face muscles. I'm trying to find a picture but this guy had triceps on his face. He was amazing.

Best I can do...

A woman unimpressed by a professional football player? You must be describing somebody married to one of those giants among men, one of those God-like creatures known only as a Quiet Professional. Yeah, I can see why P36 was underwhelmed. ;)

Unimpressed by the SIZE of a pro football player.

I am 6', 200+, and was too small for college ball. I shook hands with Dave Butz in 1981 and it was like grabbing a baseball glove.

The Pats nose guard was 375 lbs. To me, that is impressive beef on the hoof, and I am one of those SF guys.

LOL, yeah I had the somewhat mixed pleasure of sitting next to Gary Walker once on a flight from Houston to Birmingham. He was probably the most physically imposing individual I've ever seen in person from a size standpoint. It wasn't that he was all that tall - probably 6'2" or so - but even his wrists were about 24" around.

On the upside, he was a very friendly guy who was happy to talk to everyone about his NFL experiences in spite of the Crimson Tide fan  (Walker played at Auburn) sitting behind us making snide comments from time to time. On the downside, I had about 18" between him and the plane's bulkhead in which to sit, LOL. He was a big dude.

I used to take Hapkido class with a 3rd string linebacker from the Colts. He was taking to rehab a knee/hip. He was a handful when it came time to spar. We agreed he wouldn't hurt me and I wouldn't shoot him. Good guy.

I live near where several of the Patriots call home during the season ( Ty Law, David Givens, Brady , Willie McGinnest ) and I see them occassionaly at CVS or the grocery store

Most of them look like regular folks, albeit very fit regular folks

Willie McGinnest however is the single largest human being I have ever seen. He uses two shopping carts at the grocer and it's like a mountain is moving down the aisles

I'm not saying I wouldn't be impressed by the size of a linebacker or defensive end, but I think Theisman is about the same size as you TR. Fran Tarkenton was smaller than him but aren't the quicker, smaller QB's why they get those big offensive linesmen in the first place? Just asking.

When I dealt dice and cards at the casino we were a hop skip and a jump away from Arrowhead Stadium. We would always have Marcus Allen, Saleaumua and many others come in. Marcus Allen is a tall guy but not that big, Saleaumua on the other hand used to get an entire side of the craps table to himself because he was that damned big.

The only NFL player I've met is Steve Grogan. His parents were my church parents in college and I would watch the Pats games at their house. After I got married, we ended up renting our first house from Steve. The first time I met him, he was painting our house with his brother and dad. My husband joined the painting party, while Mrs. J. Grogan and I "found something else to do." lol I was used to seeing his dad, so never really thought Steve was that big.

I had a meeting with Michael Strahan regarding a potential case. He is a large man. Very nice guy too.

Now your talkin!

BTW: For anyone who might be visiting or passing through Honolulu this week and the next, be forwarned that the hotels are packed to capacity. There is room, but mostly to be found in the smaller, offline hotels.

I guess the guys on this particular flight weren't the big dudes.
I did see a group of rather large guys wandering around, beer and bimbos in hand, in Waikiki last night. They appeared to have ingested numerous cold, tasty beverages and were enjoying themselves.
