Gents:

Recently acquired a Surefire KL3 One Watt LED Module replacement lamp (Thanks Air .177!)

This is Surefire's LED replacement head for the 1" diameter lights, 6v. and 9v.

Initial observation is that it is expensive (around $50) and big (almost 1.5" in diameter and 2.2" long, compared to the standard 1.2"x1.3" Surefire incandescent bezels).

Installation takes less than 30 seconds.

The KL3 Module on the 6v. body makes almost 20 lumens for five hours, then runs an increasingly dimmer light for another five. On the 9v. bodies, the KL3 puts out the same 19.5 lumens for more than seven hours before dimming to the end at 15 hours. The output is a little less than 1/2 the lumens of the standard lamps (55 lumens), but the lights burn more than four times longer, and are usable long after the batteries will no longer power an incandescent lamp. The beam is also wider and more uniform with the KL3 than the standard incandescent lamp, which tends to have a very "hot" center and dimmer halo.

This is a 6v. body with the KL3.

Here is the 9.v. KL3 beside the 3v. L1 Lumamax.

Fresh batteries in a 6v. KL3 (l.) beside a fresh 9v. 9P (r.).

Note the relative color and shape of the beams.

Same lights after one hour.

9P is almost dead.

Thanks.

That is why we have people like you here.

BTW, I just got the module yesterday, and pics are up already. Neat, isn't it?

Great camera work Sir. I reckon I need to break out the Digicam and get some pics up of the new Photon microlight purchases I have and the new Oakley purchases.

Thanks! good info. I just switched from an M3 light to an X200 on my pistol. The X200 has a KL1 head.

I had both my big mag light out and my weapon light on a dog-track the other night and the pistol light was as bright as a 3-cell mag light.

I'll post a side by side comparison of the M3 adn x200 if anyone is interested in pistol mounted lights.
