I didn't realize Jews aren't allowed to hunt for sport..........

Presumably, the rabbi was referring to the Jewish prohibition on hunting for sport...

http://www.fedsocblog.com/blog/justice_kagan_confesses_to_hunting_with_justice_sc alia/As her nominator's administration continues its attempts to chip away at anything that threatens their despotic aims, I'll reserve judgment until seeing how (if they take it) she handles things like this. She could dance around with an M249 all the while blazing away at some endangered species and I still wouldn't trust her. Alot of these people pay lip service and then when it comes to brass tacks they change their minds.

Indeed it is, even hunting with the intention of using other parts of the animal, i.e. skins etc. while not eating the meat(*) is of great debate and generally eschewed...

*In order to eat the meat under normal(i.e not in a life threatening situation where ritual slaughter would be infeasible) circumstances, the animal would need to be ritually slaughtered, soaked and salted.
