It was suggested that I start a thread. Many of you know what I go through each election cycle living where I do. I am soliciting suggestions for preventing theft and/or defacement of my lawn sign. I will not do anything illegal or that would injure someone.

OK, let's hear 'em . . . :munchin

A sign with a Green Beret hung on it.

And a tent 10 feet from the sign.

Sticking out of the tent is a foot with a chain, attached to the sign.:munchin

Let me know when to be there........

OK, so other than adding more guys, no one is going to beat that one. But the cost is pretty high given what you'd do to my bar . . .

Paint your slogan on a piece of asbestos and paste a disclaimer to it. :D

Now that just might work, however as RL said the cost to his bar prohibits it.....:D:D:D

I will not do anything illegal or that would injure someone. 2010 some folks almost got shot down in the Socialist enclave of Madison when trying to burn swastikas into front lawns of those supporting Republicans. They forgot that attempted arson is defensible up here by the use of deadly force.

I don't suppose since I left the land of fruits & nuts in '69 that you've enacted any "repel boarders" type laws? Demonstrations of Ohm's Law is probably out too?

Richard's idea has merit if you can't sustain Team Sergeant's per diem... are the hand-wringers likely to call a HAZMAT team on you?

Any zoning restrictions? Chain link/Concertina enclosure? New developing garden (Mud patch) All posts coated with a staining agent...

Combining Badger's and Richard's thoughts, would you be off the hook, counselor, if you highly electrified the sign and posted a clear disclaimer that the sign(s) have high voltage running through them and are dangerous to touch?

I prefer TS's solution - but you've already identified some potential upkeep issues.

I think TS would be the clear choice for security, but other options might be some roofing tar on the signs to prevent theft along with motion detection lights to discourage defacement.

You can always exchange Team Sergeant's tent with a dog house and then find a friend that has a somewhat protective, but well trained Rottweiler. I have found in the past that this method works very well.

The problem is that you have to find a Rottie that will not take food from someone other than just a few select people. They do tend to be bottomless pits.

Save bar money by making the chain very short... :D

Something hard to remove.

Something like a 4" x 4" post sunk in cement in the front yard. Tastefully stained - something that can be used as a plant hanger during non-election times.

Come election time remove the planter and mount through the pre drilled holes a piece of 3/4" plywood to each side of the post (tastefully stained to match the post).

Place two signs - one per side - on the plywood. Hold both signs to the plywood with some 1/4" plexiglass.

That would be one tough mother and they would have to at least saw through the 4x4 to remove everything - take some effort.

They could spray paint the plexiglass but after taking your pictures you could replace them with little effort from the rest of the 4' x 8' sheet you have in the garage. You could even pre cut and drill the replacements.

All great ideas here especially Tress':

You could always "upgrade" (IMHO) to a Neopolitan Mastiff.
In my experience, just as nasty as a Rott but not motivated by food. :D

You can get a banner made for $20 or so. Buy one, then string it up too high for them to get to. Hopefully a couple of the thieves fall trying to cut it down, are too banged-up to go vote. Couple of problems solved.

Where you live? Put a "Help Wanted" or "Now Hiring Laborers" sign next to it.
