No SERE classes in Pennsylvania.. The Green PC Tree Hugging Wacko's of Penn St have managed to push thru a law that makes it a crime to forage food while lost in the woods..
Unless you get the correct permit( c attached)...

On a happier note..
Looks like our Thanksgiving dinner table fair will produce leftovers this year.. We have some new non-indigenous critters for the pot... The old parking lot variety have been thinned out due to the current financial crisis.

6. Permittee may only take, kill or possess timber rattlesnakes at least 42 inches in length, which have 21 or more subcaudal scales (see below instructions for determining the length and subcaudal count).
Don't think I'd be counting scales BEFORE making a decision to kill the rattlesnake.

I was hunting up in Oregon once and became "Temporarily orientationally challenged". After a couple of days, I ran out of food so I shot a medium sized bird. Turned out it was a Spotted Owl. After I ate it, a fish and game warden found me and promptly arrested me for killing a protected species.
I was taken before a local judge where I pleaded 'Guilty" with an explanation. I explained to the judge about being lost and hungry. Fortunately, he understood and dismissed the charge. As I was leaving, the judge asked me what it tasted like. I told him it was some where between a Califonia Condor and a Bald Eagle...
