Australia lifts ban on women in military combat roles
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-15074246
"...........Australia's military has about 59,000 full-time members, including 1,500 who are serving in Afghanistan. ................."
&
"..........As well as combat roles, they will be eligible to serve in special forces units, if they can meet the entry standards.
Mr Smith said the move is "a logical extension to the very strongly held view in Australian society that all of us are equal irrespective of our backgrounds and irrespective of our sex". ............."
Goes along with Doc's observation that "Men's & Women's" is outdated and everything should be combined - since we're all equal.
No more men's & women's Tennis, Cycling, Soccor, Basketball, etc, etc, etc.
After all - "all of us are equal irrespective of our backgrounds and irrespective of our sex."
59,000? Man, that's like Fort Bragg.

I'm looking forward to the day of an American enlighten society to accepts the view of legalized prostitution and the advancement of women here, where they can have the same benefits as their Aussie sisters.
Who's my pimp, (Uncle Sam)?
And now my two cents on the issue.
Fine let them in - but will the standards be kept where they are now?
Many not in SF have seen the SFAS films on Discovery, etc.
Team events suck. A woman doesn't pull her weight and is aided by the team so they all can finish. She is a non-select. Lawsuit follows, she did everything the guys did, she's handed her select papers.
Sounds like a story I've heard before.
When the standards are lowered to allow for a few women to pass it will allow some males who should not pass to pass also.

Then make an all woman ODA, send them down range, see how they do.
Thailand, Korea, Sierra Leon, Peru - maybe they can hand dig a new water well in Nigeria. Keep them deployed more days then home, see how many want to "re-deploy" after only a 6 week home station visit to kiss hubby and kids, and send their asses out again.
I hope this action in Oz, NZ, CA, and eventually the USA
Does not contribute to avoidable casualties,,
That become acceptable for PC purposes...

What would happen if one of these women were to get pregnant on a 6 week home station or, God forbid, while deployed? More importantly, how would this effect the team?
Not an issue on male teams. :munchin
BLUF - it's already happened in our military. We got women going on DA missions. I'd take one on my team. I'll deal with tampons preggos and all that just to be able to search chics on target. It's a trade off. I seriously think though if I get blown up itl probably be by some dude dressed as a chic that didn't get searched.
That being said - yeah it's gonna suck. They got it right doin what they're doing now. I like it better than em being assigned to teams.

Depends on who on the team got her pregnant. Not that it really matters...if she's comes up pregnant...her deployment just got cut short...and the others will have to cover her absence. Fairness only goes so far. So does my patience.

Ok, I've been out for quite a while now. You've piqued my curiosity...please elaborate on this. You mean to say women are going out on patrols, raids, etc. as rifle'persons', walking point, #1 in a stack, part of a fireteam with a primary role of closing with and engaging the enemy, or do you mean that they're accompanying patrols in a support role (interacting with indig females, medical support, comms) and carry a rifle/pistol for self-defense?

It's rampant on the conventional side. Senior officers don't want to seem heavy handed by enforcing the standards on female soldiers. And out of fairness they don't hold the men to the standard either. As a result the quality of the entire unit drops.
Down the line this seems to lead to what some call the Tonya Harding effect. In other words personnel who have been told their the shit their entire careers wake up one day and they run into someone who has much higher standards. This is very convicting for them. Instead of following that individuals example they do everything they can to belittle and put down those Soldiers.

Man don't you know.. we have them already.. They are called "Cultural Support Teams" (CST)

This is already happening with the CST's and FET's. But no one is talking about them or this issue.
I never heard of this with the THT with the females we had during other rotations.
