My wife and I went to Seymour Johnson AFB yesterday to get some groceries at the commisary. They have been renovating the BX there for several months now. Yesterday was the first time I had been in it since they finished the work. To my surprise, they now have a "gun store" in the middle of the BX! The selection was not huge, but it was fairly nice, as far as handguns went. Rifles and shotguns were in short supply.

I have been looking at getting a .380 in the near future and they had several. They were selling a Taurus TCP .380 for a little over $250.00! The one that caught my eye though, was a Sig P238. What a sweet little pocket pistol. They wanted around $530.00 for that one. I guess I found my Christmas present. Now I just have to find the cash for it.

Don't laugh-I bought a Ruger LC9-just a tad bigger than the Sig-no malfunctions through 3 boxes-accurate as it can be for a double action-fits in your pocket-$350-9mm v. 9mm minikurtz.

I highly recommend it, as well as my SR9c!

Fort Bragg is finishing theirs now.

Good stock of some reputable parts and components, as well as the cheap "flashy" gun parts. Decent prices for consumers. Guns have yet to arrive, but I imagine they will be stocked regularly. I'll have to ask if they are going to take orders or will only sell what they stock.

I assume they can do orders as they are likely catalog dependent by the two larger vendors for NC. Accusport or RSR are competitively priced well for guns and accessories.

Nice to see AAFES getting into this for the Army. The USMC for years has done this.

I wonder how they will accomplish the records checking outside the federal form? Anyone have any SA on this? Local check via the Provost Marshal, Commander's Signature, Med screening, etc?

Will they price match local competitors? May be a losing deal quickly if they do. Ed's in Vass is by far one of the most fairly priced that I've heard of, but mostly deals in used wares.

I love Ruger revolvers. Other than the Mk III series .22's and their 22/45's; I just have this thing with their semiautos. When the LCP first came out, it didn't have a slide lock lever. They have fixed that now, but it still doesn't feel right to me.

Where is the one at Bragg going to be? As far as the records checks go, in NC, the NICS check is all that is required. It accomplishes everything needed. If you have a CCW permit, that is all that is required; other than filling out the federal paperwork.

As far as price goes, it seems like you still get the tax breaks and can even use your STAR card if you want to, so I think they would still be very competitive.

Vetting by NICS phone checks and CCW IDs probably.

You are right, the Marine Corps Exchanges have sold guns as long as I can remember.

Doubt if they will price match, probably an AAFES operated store. No deals on base really at exchange run facilities. During my career, I watched them ruin Clothing Sales, post gas stations, and the Class VI stores. If they ever take over the Commissary, I will have to stop shopping there as well.

Ed's new guns are mostly in the back or at a gun show. If you want something there you do not see, just ask.;)

It's in the mini-mall next to clothing and sales. They are sharing space with the sporting goods store.

That sounds like a really good price. I have been looking for a P238 in the gunshops between Morehead and Jacksonville for the last few weeks. Only one shop had one on the premises, all others have to be ordered. The lowest price so far is $625.00, but that is with night sights. If the one in the BX has night sights scarf that baby up.

I am definitely going to have to check it out next time we are at Bragg. Thanks!

I wouldn't get in a big hurry. I spoke with the manager. They are several months behind with no end in sight. Seems they're having problems installing/accrediting the required security system. Hillarious since we can have a portable arms room on the grid w/i weeks while AAFES spends months and makes no progress. As for what's currently stocked - I'm of the opinion it's an indifferent selection of accessories with prices that ARE NOT competitive. I would certainly try price matching. I would also recommend the internet and military discounts at local retailers (strangely AAFES doesn't offer a military discount ). Though I will have to get some of the zombie targets (and a couple Re-Elect Obama stickers to make them more realistic).

That is where it used to be when that building was the Main Post PX.

Funny.
