Just bought a Bushmaster MOD XM15-E2S rifle length with the heavy chrome lined barrel. I want to put a free float tube on it and was wondering how hard this would be to do myself OR how much would be an acceptable amount to pay a 'smith. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Depends on the FFT. Doing it yourself isn't a big deal provided you take your time. A lot will depend on the rifle's current setup. You will need tools that you probably don't have; hence my recommendation to take it to a GS. You provide the FFT, a competent GS can install it in less than 15 minutes. Shouldn't cost more than $30-40.

Yeah, I was looking at the smithy wrench and I think it cost about that, so might as well have a pro do it. I doubt I would ever need the tool again. Thanks :lifter

This is actually an informative thread on DIY AR15 stuff. But if you're only going to do one, find someone with the tools.

Well aside from wasting money by putting a good rail on a Bushmaster one of the easier solutions that will require minimal works is to get a Centurion Arms rail system. All you need to do is cut the Delta ring from the weapon and then install the top and bottom rail, then tighten the screws. They are solid rails and the owner is a Navy SEAL who is still on active duty.

The Centurion arms rail is robust and solid and will require the removal of the delta ring assembly for installation. The Daniel Defense omega rails will use the delta ring and floats the barrel, and you can return the rifle to original configuration if you so choose. both can be installed with minimal effort and no gunsmith.
