Instructors struggle to rebuild Somalia's army

"MOGADISHU, Somalia - The instructor's whistle tweets, and around 50 Somalis drawing paychecks from the U.S. government punch the air in front of them with varying degrees of coordination and enthusiasm..................."

The last line - "At least we have started something," he said. "We need to hand over Somalia to a professionalized army. We will not stay here forever."

I think Africa will be a basket case for years/decades to come.

Good luck to the instructors but they are fighting in a spinning whirlpool. Not a good outcome for years. A lot of years.

The Somali Army as I remember it? A ragtag group with different uniforms, different weapons, one big fat guy in charge and a bunch of skinny guys who looked like they were half starved. There were also a number of teen aged soldiers there who looked like they would have been too young to join the U.S. Army.

After visiting a number of Thirld World countries I came to the conclusion that they will never develop or better themselves for the simple reason that the people there could care less about anything.

Nice effort. But it's a waste of time and money.
