View Full Version : Military Info Spt Grp?
This came out today from SOCOM. Some of you seen it, I'm sure:
"8th Military Information Support Group (Airborne) Activation Ceremony
FORT BRAGG, N.C. (USASOC News Service, Aug. 24, 2011) – The 8th Military Information Support Group (Airborne) will hold an activation ceremony at 9 a.m., Aug. 26, on Meadows Field at the U.S. Army Special Operations Command headquarters."
What does an MISG, and their MISBs for that matter, do? Is this another reinvention of the Psyops Gps?
"Information" must have by now beat out the word "Fuck" as the most over-used word in the English language.
They simply renamed PsyOps to MISO.

NO PRISONERS,, Cafe Mocha Cream Delight, con Leche???
An example of a MISG Team Room and recruiting poster...

Did they have to pick "8th"?
Info?
Man, that is so hip sounding. Like we tweet, and e-mail, and text, and you-tube all over the place
What ever happened to "Army" sounding names for units?

My MOS Orders still say "Psychological Operations", and I am still a member of the brotherhood and lineage of "Psychological Operations". I am still a PSYOPer. You can call me whatever you want, but I know what I am:cool:
FYI, "PSYOP" is who we are, "PSYOPS" is what we do.

-outIs that one of your colleagues that made the visiting congresscritters so mad that they changed your name to something more benign? PSYOP had a coolness factor - MISO sounds like the acronym that used to be a base's DPI, Mgmt Info Systems Office. (The place where your 80-column Hollerith card got made & sent from so you got paid in a few weeks or the requisition got into the "system"...)
Question for PSYOPer: In 1980 Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers' music was blasted at Cuban refugees inside their wire, was that psyops or musical appreciation by the MP company?

We covered that in the course, but if I told you I'd have to...;)
Maybe one of the foggies on here can answer from first hand knowledge. I wasn't even born then.
I asked some Marines about the Army PSYOP Spc they had attached for a tour. They said he was pretty cool - but they never figured out if he was there for anything other than playing their ipods through the V-FOL. At least us "information support specialists" are good for something

Not sure on the 1980 mission.
But we did rock out in downtown Panama Dec 1989-Jan 1990 with Black Sabbath and other nefarious metal bands while convining the Papal Nuncia to cough up Manuel Noriega.

Well they could have played ABA but that would have just pissed off our troops.;)
