"........The Bright Star army drills were to begin later this year. The U.S. State Department said that, “The decision was reached as part of our routine bilateral conversations. Egypt and the United States also agreed to commence formal planning in June 2012 for the next installment of exercise Bright Star in 2013.”

The terrorists infiltrated from the Sinai, which is supposed to patrolled by Egypt, and at least one of the multi-pronged attacks was carried out under the noses of Egyptian soldiers sitting in a watchtower adjacent to the border fence along an Israeli highway................"

Did Operation Bright Star in '85 and had all kinds of fun. To bad they want to cancel it.

How about a new training scenario added to the operation in which U.S. counter terrorist forces seek out and engage members of Al Qaida?

We were slated to attend Bright Star this year, but withdrew long ago due to FP concerns (i.e. no weapons!). It's a shame, I think it would have been a good experience.

Bright Star Class of '83.

The "great discovery" as reported in the Army Times just after that Bright Star was if a soldier oiled up his weapon it collected sand and then malfunctioned.

Something the Army discovers about once every 10 years.
