California may be behind the times, but so is the Army. I don't see anything in the UCMJ specifically addressing necrophilia. I suppose it would be an Article 134 offense, though, assuming it was prejudicial to good order and discipline.

A felony punishable by up to 8 years? That puts California in the middle.

In New York, it a Class A misdemeanor, so the maximum punishment is 1 year. I have no idea when it was criminalized (though it is in the same statute that covers bestiality and sodomy).

In Florida, it is a felony of the second degree (up to 15 years). According to the legislative history, the particular statute dates from 1996, but there might have been an earlier version.
