How the hell does a platoon of uniformed Mexican soldiers in military vehicles cross the Rio Grande at one of the international crossings (well marked) and our government say it was accidental.
Unbelievable!
Suspicious, especially paired with "Fast and Furious".
But is was "fewer" than 40 so I guess it's OK.
"(CNN) -- Four humvees carrying 33 Mexican soldiers crossed the border into the United States, and officials on both sides say it was a harmless mistake.
The convoy of military vehicles crossed the recently-opened Donna--Rio Bravo International Bridge, which links the two cities of the same names in Texas and Mexico.
The incident happened around 1:30 p.m. (2:30 p.m. ET) Tuesday, Customs and Border Protection spokesman Rick Pauza told CNN.
The soldiers "just said they inadvertently crossed onto the U.S. side," he said.
The military men were processed at the port of entry before being allowed to cross back, he said.
For its part, the Mexican military said that while patrolling the border, they accidentally got on the international bridge and had no choice but to enter the American side because that is where the turn-around is located."
"Everything was fine, there was no resistance and no other issues there," Pauza said

On the news this morning, they interviewed one of the US Border Patrol guys...he said that they didn't know if they were armed or not. Wow.
They were probably using a GPS with NavTeq maps...which don't have the bridge on it yet!!!
Sounds like an honest mistake to me. I've made similar mistakes (having to cross a bridge to turn around) more times than I care to admit.

Hmmm. Wonder if they confirmed that they really were military?
Well, we trained the GAFE (Air Mobile Special Forces Groups) under the Mexican Training Initiative 1995-1997 IIRC. The rumor, which most have heard, was that many of whom we trained left the GAFE and became Los Zetas. I ran into a Mexican Colonel about a year ago on an MTT in Mexico, who was a Captain in the GAFE that we put through MTI in 1995. Even carried around a picture in his pocket of him with my old Bn Cdr, LTC Ed Phillips. He said that they lost a guy or two to Los Zetas but so did/does the regular army. They still do because the bad guys pay better. Just the way it is.
