Basic test results: 53% Dixie. Barely in Dixie

Advanced test results: 22% Dixie. You are a dandy Yankee Doodle.

I either spent too much time watching Dukes of Hazzard. Or not enough.

Two questions the test might have asked are:

When you were young, what did you call your father?

Dad
Daddy
Pop (or Pops)
Sir
By his first name

As an adult, what do you call your father?

Dad
Daddy
Pop (or Pops)
Sir
By his first name.

I was once asked, "If you were to have lived during the Civil War, who would you have fought for?"

My answer was neither, I'd already be out west in the Rocky Mountains, looking for Gold, Silver, Cattle, Land, etc. I do however, respond well to the advances of southern women.

Good questions...others I thought of...
What do you call the father of your father?
A. Grandfather
B. Grand-dad
C. Grampa
D. Pe-Paw
E. Pappy

What do you call the mother of your father?
A. Grandmother
B. Grand-mom
C. Gramma
D. Me-Maw
E. Nana

Any question about sweet tea or a porch versus a deck.

Of course, Lewis Grizzard (RIP)and Jeff Foxworthy have been able to point out southern-isms for a long time now.

Well that is confusing. Damn good thing that they did not ask about how I tend to spell certain words, like “addresse, colour, tyre, blonde”, etc. Then they would be confused, also.

I lived in the heart of Appalachia for a bit once. It took a while to regularly understand the locals, about six months. One of the locals who I was friends with accused me of having an accent. I asked him how many times he has had to ask me to repeat myself over the last few months, and he said, "Not once." I then asked him how times per day I ask him to repeat himself and he said, "about a dozen or so times." I then asked him how is it that he understands all that I say, but I do not understand him most of the time and yet I have the accent. He thought about it for a bit and then came to the conclusion that it was he that had the accent. We got along even better after that.

The only time I ever had it/them was in Alabama and they were soaked in butter and tasted like butter-flavored wall-paper paste. Blech. But I'm willing to admit there might be better ways to prepare -- maybe TS can come up with a recipe.

Try making "carcked wheat" mush. 1 part wheat, 2 parts water. The secret is bringing the water to boil similar to when you prepare rice. Add wheat, turn down the heat, cover, wait. When the water is gone, its done. So simple a cowboy could do it.

Serve warm in a bowl, add milk, fresh cream, honey or brown sugar. An early morning bowl of wheat mush will carry you to 2pm.

I didn't get the same results............

Team Sergeant "You are a Spartan!"

Be proud! You have endured unbelievable pain and hardship to become a superior Spartan soldier and citizen! Taken away from your parents at age 7, you lived a harsh and often brutal life in the soldiers barracks. You were beaten by older children who started fights to help make you tough and strong. You were often were whipped in front of groups of other Spartans, including your parents, but never cried out in pain.

You were given very little food, but encouraged to steal food, instead. If caught stealing, you were beaten. To avoid severe pain, you learned to be cunning, to lie, to cheat, to steal, and how to get away with it!

Some of you are members of the Spartan secret police and enjoy spying on slaves. If you find a slave who is showing signs of leadership, you have orders to kill them immediately. You are fierce, capable, and proud of your strength. You know you are superior and are delighted to be Spartan!

Nothing like grits with lots of butter, salt, pepper, a couple or 3 runny eggs, biscuits and sausage gravy AND a side of bacon and black coffee.

All grits are not created equal ! Know'm sane?

Properly prepared grits is an art...I'm not saying I got it down but I do know good grits when I've had them.

I had seen them served up in Army chow halls but had never tried them until I was in Phase 1 at Camp Mackall. You see, about every third day or so they would bring out a "hot" breakfast to us to supplement the C-rations. The food was cooked at a chow hall on Ft. Bragg, shoveled into Mermite Food Transportaion Containers, loaded onto trucks, driven out to Camp Mackall and then, eventually, served to us students. By the time that the food got onto our plates it was at least two hours plus since it had been cooked.

The Mermite cans were supposed to keep everything hot, but the only thing that was still a little warm by the time it got to us was the grits. Since I wanted something warm in my belly I added a little butter (which never really melted) and sugar to the grits and learned to not only appreciate them, but look forward to them.

2. How many geoducks do you eat in a year?
a. A WHAT?!?!?!?
b. Will not pass my lips - too damn ugly
