(CNSNews.com) – Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D.-Fla.), chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, denounced Republicans last week for believing illegal immigration “should in fact be a crime.”
“I think the president was clearly articulating that his position--the Democratic position--is that we need comprehensive immigration reform,” said Wasserman Schultz at a Christian Science Monitor Breakfast on May 26.
“We have 12 million undocumented immigrants in this country that are part of the backbone of our economy and this is not only a reality but a necessity," she said. "And that it would be harmful--the Republican solution that I’ve seen in the last three years is that we should just pack them all up and ship them back to their own countries and that in fact it should be a crime and we should arrested them all.”

I know people who would take any job they can get. Even the Dems can't sell the "American's don't want these jobs" b.s. anymore, still we're letting 1.1 million "legal" immigrants in every year when our economy is in the tank. How many of them find employment? I agree that what she really wants is the Hispanic vote, but I think 2012 is going to be the turning point. Did anybody see the housing data today? Can't the government be sued to enforce the law, instead of states passing laws that are tossed by the federal courts? (e.g. Arizona). How many jobs would go to Americans if the federal government did their job or at least let states like Arizona do it for them?
Perhaps America is best served shipping dingbat politicians with more names than brain cells back to their own countries?
The economy is rough, and getting rougher, I still do wonder if citizens would step in and take any job, with extended unemployment benefits etc, and instances such as that situation last year where the Washington apple farm had to import Jamaican immigrants to fill the void citizens wouldn't fill after deporting illegals.
IMHO this sort of conduct was nearly as troubling as illegal immigration.

IMO, the best way for the GOP to respond is to point out this fact.
By making the discussion center around what the president has not done, the GOP could avoid the type of inflammatory, polarizing rhetoric that Ms. Wasserman Schultz its trying to encourage.
YMMV.
Perhaps we should consider making illegal robbery, illegal murder, and illegal fraud crimes as well...
...the GOP may be on to something by comparing illegal stuff to common crime.
