I personally think that nothing cuts through the heat and humidity like a nice, solid Gin and Tonic. But after an unfortunate incident on Pat Pong Rd ($200 barbill and $300 for broken furniture) involving a number of G&T's, it became obvious that I should stop drinking. Gin. A few years ago, I was working in Hawaii and stumbled upon a delicious mixture. My friend was going to the liquor store ao I asked him to get me a bottle of vodka to mix with my lemonade. He came back with a bottle of Raspberry Flavored Vodka. I mixed this with my lemonade and it was delicious! In honor of the area I was living in Hawaii (Waia'nae), I called it a Waia'nae Lemonade.

Waia'nae Lemonade
Fill a 24 oz glass with ice
add- 2-3 oz Raspberry Vodka
fill with lemonade, stir and enjoy.

A frozen lime daiquiri works well around here - especially while attending a game at the Ball Park in Arlington.

My go-to is a simple Cuba-Libre,

Diet Coke (it's not as sweet)
Dash of Lime juice to taste
Dark Rum
& a little ice (I don't like to water down drinks)

Followed by a Pina Colada.

Coconut Cream/Milk
pineapple juice of crushed w/juices
Light Rum
& again a little ice

We have also been known to consume vast quantities of Long Island Ice Tea,, by the gallon.. It is a bit pricey and you need at least a 5 gal bucket to mix it in.. This recipe is for a party of one(1) SF OD-A CONUS, double it if your OCONUS..

1 bottle vodka
1 bottle Tequila
1 bottle rum
1 bottle gin
1/2 bottle triple sec
2 bottles sweet and sour mix
3 bottles Coke
pour into 18oz beer cups with a lot of ice

Note 1: Any bottle of alcohol from the med kit can be substituted when OCONUS..

Note 2: Pile all car/truck keys into safe and lock until next day..

Dusty,,

I like a lot of FOG's fighting Hi-BP's, have cut way back on caffeine and this is my go-to when at friends parties and no decaf-cola is available. A little crude by some standards,, but I like it..

Oh, don't get me wrong...I've got nothing at all against it, myself.

Incidentally, my diastolic never goes below 100 for the first 24 oz...:D

Tequila, baby!

Limes
Ice
Salt
Tequila
Triple Sec
Rose's Lime Juice

Fill blender with ice to the line. Add 1 cup tequila, 1/2 cup ea of Triple Sec and Rose's Lime Juice. Blend until nice and frosty, rim margarita glass with lime and dip in salt, pour your margarita and enjoy.

This recipe is very simple, but yummy. And it beats any of those nasty mixes by a mile.

...it became obvious that I should stop drinking. Gin.

For Mark (give Gin one more chance :))

my recipe for Gin and Tonic:

1-2 mature caper berries (grape sized)
2-4 Tonic Water Ice Cubes (see Note)
3 ounces *Plymouth* gin
4 ounces Tonic Water
1 tablespoon freshly squeezed organic lime juice
Lime wedge for garnish

Put one or two caper berries in a tall, narrow, chilled glass. Then place the ice cubes in over the top of the berries. Add the lime juice, then the gin, then the tonic water, don't stir. Garnish with lime wedge, and serve immediately.

Note: To make the ice cubes, simply fill an empty ice cube tray with Tonic Water, and let the cubes freeze. It will take longer than plain water. Covered well, the cubes will remain fresh-tasting in the freezer for at least a few weeks. This also prevents dilution of the drinks flavor which happens with normal ice cubes.

and from a friend:

In a 16oz glass place 3 tonic water ice cubes

add lime juice (sliver's worth) then drop in sliver

2 shots of gin

over top add one 12 oz can of Safeway Select tonic water (specifically)

don't stir, the effervescence (bubbles) from the tonic water will mix for you

I love gin. The problem is that it makes me think I am made out of steel and rubber which was fine when I was younger. But now, it takes a lot longer to heal...

If you love Gin and Tonic - try Gin and Schweppe's bitter lemon as a refreshing alternative for a hot day.

I have fond memories of drinking the above after smuggling a large amount of booze into Norway and being quite popular with the locals who were also staying at the campground and with whom we shared. ;)

I think we spent $50 in Germany for what would've been something like $200 in Norway. :D

Sapphire tonic with lime is my "go to" summer time drink and the way the weather has been, I should be dusting off the bottle mid-July. I will have to try out the tonic ice cubes.

Agree. I like the Sapphire and G&Ts are great for hot weather.

Since I just got a letter from the VA saying I haven't gotten my shots this year and should, I think I will start with some tequila shots tonight per the drs orders.

If I present that letter to the bartender, will I qualify for a bar tab under MEDICAID? If the government sponsors methodone clinics, I think think its fair.....

Lone Wolf- Pine needles? Close, it's juniper berries...

Another vote for Sapphire.

But, I also copied and forwarded JJ_BPK's Long Island Ice Tea recipe (thanks) for my cousin - possible Stanley Cup and graduation parties this summer - we will send the women and children away (they enjoy themselves more without us).

No matter the event, that recipe looks like it could always come in handy.

Brother, I'm aware that juniper berries are used in the making of gin, but it still smells and tastes like plain ol' pine neddles to me...;)

Going to try that. I know what you mean about Norway, we jumped in in '78 near Sandjafjord (sp) and about shit when we went to order a beer.

I love G&T's, but a nice alternative is the Mount Gay Rum & tonic, very refreshing on a hot summer day.

Made just like a G&T (with lime), but use Mount Gay Barbados Rum instead.

I have no idea if it would be as good with other rums, I've never tried.

Mount Gay Rum is big in the sailing world.

Plymouth gin makes a great martini. It's a bit different than regular London dry gin.

Beefeater and ginger ale is a good summer drink. The ginger ale reduces the juniper taste of the gin.

Funny story...was out with a buddy and he was drunk and wanted something easy. My brother ordered a LI Iced tea and he said "Hey, that sounds good" thinking he was gonna get an Ice tea. Boy did he get F'd up.

Long Island Iced Tea...there's probably more than one reason it is abbreviated...LIIT. ;)

Those iced teas should come with a warning label.

Long Island Iced Tea...there's probably more than one reason it is abbreviated...LIIT. ;)

Those iced teas should come with a warning label.

I had a friend introduce me to a fun variant of the Long Island iced tea he called a "purple haze". Instead of adding cola, add Chambord (or any other black raspberry liquor).

Which reminds me of another one of my favorite drinks - one of the few Guiness coktails I've had that actually improves on the Guiness experience, the black & black: add 1 shot of Black Haus (blackberry liquor) to 1 pint Guiness. You get all the wonderful Guiness taste with a sweet berry finish (and a little extra kick)!

Please try this before telling me I'm breaking universal laws for adulterating Guiness - if it's wrong, then I don't want to be right - its sacrilicious. :D

The Sapphire can make a difference - it's all subjective and the various tastes of the individual gins are quite distinctive.

My grandfather swears by Tanqueray and tonic in the summer. I prefer Sapphire.

If we're talking good gins, I highly recommend trying Hendrick's. It is not cheap, but it is excellent.

I believe the Wall Street Journal awarded it "Best Gin in the World" at one point.

72 ounces beer (6 pack bottled), 72 ounces water, 6 cups of clear (vodka, gin, etc...). Add country time powdered lemonade to taste, mix well and serve on ice. Great for sitting out on the porch, watching the game, or relaxing at/in the pool. Enjoy...

"summer soda"

Had this at Frank in austin a while back.

1 part vanilla vodka
2 parts grapefruit italian soda

I only tasted this but it was excellent, meanwhile i was drinking a bloody mary made with bacon infused tito's which they called a "red headed stranger" and which was also awesome.

This one time at SHOT... an insane former Chopper Jockey had a fruity fizzy umbrella laden cocktail delivered to TS.... and lived.... it was interesting to see TS go apoplectic when it was placed in front of him... there are other witnesses to this event on the board, and this was just at dinner... the rest of the evening just got more epic as time went on... I can't remember if TS swore us all to secrecy about this.

Recently discovered something that I really like. I'm a sweet tea freak and brew my own tea everyday. Sometimes several pitchers. I also like vodka....

Sweet tea...(brewed to your liking) BTW MUST BE HOMEMADE
Add: Vodka. Mine's usually 1/3 tp 2/3 and ends up 1/2 to 1/2 (after a couple) ...but depends on taste.

Ketel 1 is my preferred Vodka for this....That's why I call 'em Tea Ketels

Never tried to add lemon, but never drink lemon in my tea anyway.

Different folks call it different things. I've heard Slip 'n go naked, Sip 'n go naked, Sip n' fall, Happy lemonade, etc...

I generally use a clearer beer IOT not make it look too much like dehydrated piss. Realizing it'll look like piss eventually anyway. If you do it right, you WILL NOT taste the alcohol. I've given this to non drinkers before and some noticed and some didn't. Either way I have a good time with it.

We loved it in the Q on football weekends. Of course, there wasn't much we didn't like in the Q.

Take it easy bro. Enjoy...

Living in the South, I would be remiss if I didn't mention the Mint Julep

Start with a glass of crushed ice
Add 4 oz of good bourbon, i.e. Makers Mark, Blanton's etc..
Add mint simple syrup to taste
Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint.
