Marines Get Trained on Accepting Gay Recruits
Thursday, 28 Apr 2011 03:51 PM
SAN DIEGO – If a Marine spots two men in his battalion kissing off-duty at a shopping mall, he should react as if he were seeing a man and woman. If he turns on the television news to see a fellow Marine dressed as a civilian and marching in a parade with a banner that reads, "Support Gays and Lesbians in the Military!" he should accept it as a free right of expression.
Prescriptions for those possible scenarios are being played out at Marine bases as the military prepares to allow gays to openly serve, ending a 17-year-old policy commonly known as "don't ask, don't tell." Training for the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines began early this year and is expected to finish by summer's end. The repeal goes into effect 60 days after the president, defense secretary and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff certify that lifting the ban won't hurt the military's ability to fight.
"These changes are about policy," states briefing material for Marine instructors. "The policy is about adherence to orders and behavior, and not about beliefs."
The latest round of training material asks Marines to consider their reactions to a wide range of scenarios, from seeing a member "hanging around" a gay bar to hearing locker-room jokes from others who refuse to shower in front of gays. Members of the 1st Marine Logistics Group report to class Thursday at Camp Pendleton.
There is nothing wrong with "hanging around" a gay bar, the materials state. The officer who witnesses the loud locker-room banter aimed at gays and lesbians should remind the Marines any discrimination or harassment is inappropriate.
For those who oppose the new policy, the Marine Corps says it doesn't expect anyone to change their personal beliefs. Still, everyone must follow orders.
"You remain obligated to follow orders that involve interaction with others who are gay or lesbian, even if an unwillingness to do so is based on strong, sincerely held moral or religious beliefs," the training material states.
A top-notch recruiter who opposes the new policy cannot refuse a promising applicant on grounds of sexual orientation but might be considered for another assignment and, at the discretion of the Navy secretary, may be granted early discharge.
Chaplains who preach at base chapels that homosexuality is a sin are entitled to express their religious beliefs during worship.
The Marines expect to finish training on the new policy by June 1, Gen. James Amos, the Marine Corps commandant, testified in Congress earlier this month.
Amos testified last year that permitting gays to openly serve could disrupt smaller combat units and distract leaders from preparing for battle. When he appeared this month before the House Armed Services Committee, he said he had been looking for problems that might arise under the new policy and hadn't found any "recalcitrant pushback."
"There has not been the anxiety over it from the forces in the field," he said.

This is bullshit, plain and very simple............It's going to go over to the Army side and give this same shameful message ..............I really think there will be a lot of trouble over this......

As I said before...another bullshit social experiment imposed on the military.
They have no choice....some of the "rights" you lose when you're Uncle Sams property...:mad:

And it's not about changing beliefs?
And it's not about changing beliefs?
Only if the witness is "aroused".
Well I can say is Alternative Lifestyle Sensitivity Training for us starts in May.
Well the hits keep roll on!!!!
I can tell you I've seen the issues it gave a USMC Company Commander during Combat. He had one Marine that just could not stop providing services to fellow Marines, Co ship him out.

I've already covered the training for about 90% of the "green suiters" in DOTD. I try to keep it simple, the time for arguing is over...now it's about covering our a$$es (so to speak) so when there is an incident, and there will be, the command can say they were briefed.
4th BN did our "training" this past week and from what I gleamed from it is DOMA is next on the list. wont be long before "they need the same benifits as straight couples" ie housing, health care and such for their life partner...once the military signs off on it its just a matter of time..

Not sure if things are the same now, but in my day most teams had open slots and it was somewhat difficult to get rid of someone. We had a guy on our team that everyone wanted gone so one morning Don Ringley (TS) announces there is a new team PT standard. Tells us we are going for a run of undetermined duration. He leads and has me at the back. He then announces that anyone who falls behind LHC will be immediately kicked to the B team. We then proceeded to run until said pogue fell out.
Not sure how you are going to ship a guy out for being a pole smoker.

Does this mean we can shower with females too? Same principles...
Why even drag everyone through "training" and "scenarios"? Just take two minutes and say; "don't harass or treat them different....oh, and you're going to have to deal with it". Maybe it's me, but the effort going into this is ridickless.
The officer who witnesses the loud locker-room banter aimed at gays and lesbians should remind the Marines any discrimination or harassment is inappropriate.
Then how about training on everything that can be turned into a discriminatory or harassing comment? Why not turn our attention from fighting and defending and do feel-good lessons on peoples feelings all day long.
I have been told that I am okay with this...
...I have also been told the only correct opinion is to completely support the policy.
...and since we have all been directed to support the new policy, it must be a good idea.
Its a good thing I sat through the new SHARP briefings this week. I wouldn't want to sexually harass anyone when I can legally 'get my gay on' 60 days after the ink is dry on the DADT repeal....
...just my two cents - I could be wrong.
PS:
I love you guys !
This isn't going to end well. Soldiers will end up policing themselves. We knew that certain people were homo when I was AD and we steered clear of them. The only good news is there seems to be far less homos in combat units as compared to medical companies. Maybe they'll separate themselves from the rest of us. But there are going to be dark, bleak days ahead before the suits finally realize they're compromising national security by demoralizing the troops and causing mass exodus when it gets so bad that steady men just can't take it anymore. This is embarrassing and disgraceful. If I see two homos kissing in public Ill react the same way I would now, marines or not. And if I have to explain their public perversions to my young daughters, I doubt I'll be able to restrain myself.

I tend to think it is a similar principle myself. I wonder how proponents of homesexual integration answer this.

They have answered it - The horny heterosexual male can not control his animalistic urges and must be kept away from females. The more refined homosexual male has calmed his inner urges and can shower with straight males without thinking along sexual lines.
See - it's your fault.

Can't we just be friends?
And it's not about changing beliefs?
Nah, just behaviour.
Nah, just behaviour.
Just for some..........
Some don't have to change their behaviour.
The shower issue is one of the main problems with this and nothing is going to be done about it.
Men and women cannot dorm together, use the same bathrooms, and at least in the Air Force they can't spot eachother for PT. With gays being allowed to serve the only way to solve this problem would be to segregate them the same way straight males and females are.
For those who support this I ask " How sould you feel if I showered with your wife? Or what if your wife had to dorm with a man?" That wouldn't fly with anyone, but they don't seem to make the connection that a gay showering with someone is the same difference.
I apologize if there are grammatical errors I'm typing on my phone.

Absolutely. I should have articulated my reply a little better. what I meant is that the policy change can only affect someone's behaviour, not his beliefs. IMO.
Example? If a service member doesn't condone homosexuality I don't see how the new policy might make him change his mind.
For the records, we received the DADT training on base too. One hour that I might have spent engaging myself in more productive activities. But if big navy says so, who am I to contradict her?

Nudists don't seem to have a problem with it, and neither do some other cultures.

If a man kisses a women the it's natural but if a man kisses another man, can you really just tell people to treat this behavior the same way as the other they aren't the same and never will be..
now if a women kisses another women thats just fine by me, I would be perfectly fine with accepting that behavior (just call me Mr. Open minded), and invite my friends to watch with me :munchin

Have you ever noticed it's all ME or MY Administration with this guy....
I like how all of the DADT briefings all start with "we are not trying to change your opinions or beliefs..."
"...ok, everyone has to support this because everyone has the right to be accepted as equals"
...ha, and the briefing usually ends with "NO, you cant use your belief system as a reason not to support the repeal of DADT"
Political semantics-nothing more nothing less. I wish people would stop trying to tell me they aren't trying to change my mind and just tell me the truth:
BOSS: "Here is your feces sandwhich, now consume it and STFU."
ME: "Thank you sir, may I have another"
Life in the military really can be just that easy if you just give clear concise instructions and dont try to bullshit your soldiers. Soldiers know what bullshit looks like. They know it smells and they know it tastes like shit. Soldiers also have a strange way of doing marvelous things when you are straight with them. Our leaders in DC haven't been "straight" (pun intended) with us in a very long time.
I am going to do whatever the boss tells me to do and I am going to get good results doing it regardless of how unpopular the program may be. I just wish everyone would stop pissing on my back and then trying to convince me that it is just a warm spring shower.
You should consider yourself lucky: there's people who pay for those warm spring showers you keep on getting for free... :D:D:D

These "month of" nonsense do not mean or change anything, they're only a way of pampering idiots with too much time on their hands...:mad:

Just spent four hours attending the Army sexual harassment and sexual assault prevention class and on-line training. Take away lesson: Don't let your buddies get drunk and have sex. Wow.
Multiply that times roughly 600,000 Army soldiers and civilians, meaning that we spent 2.4 million man hours on this "training" and consider the fact that the dumbasses who are violators will not learn anything from it.
I also work in a job with zero females present. I guess the mandatory acceptance of gays could make that less relevant, but at this point, I am underwhelmed with our leadership's decisions on how to spend our training time.

I'm afraid America is starting to lose it's way......... Since "O" has been in office he has manage in less than 4 years to screw up this Country so bad it is going to take a lot of work to get us back on track again............ Hopefully he won't return for another 4 years, however if he does I fear he'll have our Country so messed up no one will be able to put us together as we once were.........It just boggles my mind how he continues to have support from people who believe what he's been doing is good for this country.......:(:(:(
