View Full Version : Is your iPhone tracking you???
I heard this on the radio on my drive home.
Have you heard the news? Two researchers have discovered that the iPhone keeps a minute-by-minute, time-stamped log of everywhere you go. That’s right: Your phone is tracking you. So is the cellular version of the iPad.

I goggled this and found a lot more interesting facts. Glad I'm a Droid user. Yeah it's us too.
Go to Settings--->General--->Location Services
And turn it off.
Stay safe.

From what I understand, It uses triangulation from cell towers rather than a GPS chip. It only give a general vicinity rather than a specific address...

Sir,
Will this disable the phone from acting as a real-time navigation tool/GPS?
A have an iPhone 4 and just did what was suggested by Guy and my GPS no longer logs on so the answer is "yes" to your question.
It disabled Facebook, Police Scanner, Weather Channel, Fandango, and a few other location finding devices including the compass.
I do not sync my phone. I plug it in to my computer to charge it but do not allow it to sync. I also do not use it for music. The last time I used iTunes it took my computer based music library of over 700 songs, some actually downloaded from CDs, and re-licensed everything making my music library useless. iTunes tech support had the balls to tell me I should have bought my music.
Anyway, I lead a boring life and have nothing to hide.
Sir,
Will this disable the phone from acting as a real-time navigation tool/GPS?Learn how to use a map & compass...I've out-ran a GPS and that shit was scary. The only we made it back was terrain association.
Once you depend on a "all-in-one" tool and that SOB goes down, you've lost every other tool that was inclusive.
Stay safe.

Under "Location Services" you have the option to shut off all services at the top, or can scroll down and individually enable/disable individual apps. So if you would like to use GPS for Mapquest but don't want Facebook tracking you, you can enable one and disable the other (in theory).

I use my iPhone to help track my workouts (MapMyRun app and formerly Nike+ app), but have also found GPS tracking to be useless in many situations as I've outrun them on cloudy days or over certain terrain. And I'm not exactly a speed demon. Anymore I map out my run prior, to include mileage, and use the iPhone solely for music purposes or ... go figure ... as a phone.

I have had some issues with my phone. I went back and checked it again and did not notice any other icons in Location Services UNTIL I did a hard reboot. It set my phone back and restarted it. When I checked Loacation Services again the individual buttons were there. This was a late Fathers Day gift from my older daughter and was one of the first i 4s delivered. Looks like another trip to iStore...Thanks!

With the next release of the Iphony software,, you will never see that file again..
No, really,, you will not be able to find it..
Like it never really happened..
Steve Jobs will guarantee you can't find it...

The only reason I have an IPhone is because:
1. It goes with my IPad.
2. It goes with my MacBook Pro.
I like matching fashion.:lifter
Or, I had three (3) PCs take a crap on me in three years.
Stay safe.

What is it with you Mac guys :D
Everyone I know that has bought one Mac product has gone out and matched everything. One friend of mine is so untrusting that he buys all of his Mac software from either MacMall or a local Mac store.
I will admit that PCs are probably less reliable than Mac systems but the cost of repair is less. I can remember when a network card was a couple of hundred dollars now they are 10$.
Sorry about your machines, hope all is well now.

Guy
Apple makes a good product,,
They have above average support,,
They have good security right out of the box,,
They are inventive and leading edge, with new designs and operating system
My bitch is with Jobs and his not invented here mentality.
That and these little odd nuances to their world domination effort..
By the way,, I have never been found of MS and the Super Geek Gates..
I use to like the penguin,, but I'm leaning to the little green fellow..

The first PC I bought gicked up a virus the 3rd day I had it. We have 4 Macs plus an Ipad in the home. We have had 3 problems in the 10 or so years we have been using Apple products. All were resolved with a minimum of fuss. FWIW, we always purchase the offered extended service contract. We used it for two out of the three problems mentioned...
As far as Macs not getting viruses, its not they can't but more people have PCs so most hackers target windows as opposed to Snow Leopard or the soon to be Lion.
That about sums it up nicely.
