Carried one during my first enlistment 30 years ago. That's kind of heady stuff for an 18 year old kid. Had an Ithaca and a Remington. Qualified expert too. In my toybox rests a Springfield Armory M1911A1 complete with black leather military issue holster and belt. They're an American classic.
Next best thing to an Heckler and Koch. :lifter:cool::rolleyes:

I drew one from the arms room in Afghanistan last year.
The U.S. military bought their last ones in 1945.
Somehow, I do not see us still issuing the Beretta M9 in 2085.
Happy Birthday, and thank you John Moses Browning!

Roger that. Happy Birthday, Mr. Browning.
People-mostly young fucks-take every opportunity to disparage my 1911s, and I'm sure I'm a dinosaur, or kookie, WTF ever- but I feel armed when I'm packing a damn M1911A1.
It's similar to humping a .308 instead of a 5.56.
You get one tuned up right, and there's nothing smoother...
Everything else feels like a BUG.
I've got 2, and will not part ways with either one.
I love it for all the reasons you should. I'm sure there is better, but it's a 1911 for crying out loud! :D

And... I understand... Utah has beaten Arizona to the punch in selecting a "State Firearm"! They chose the 1911!

Heckler Yeah
Heckler Yeah
Yeah. A pink one.

There still buying them here in MARSOC. They just ran test looking for a more current/Modern 1911. The ones they are using now. Look every bit 100 years old.
Yeah. A pink one.
Mine's pink on the inside :) :p

Next best thing if you're missing a boat anchor....:munchin
Then again it did replace the six shooter about 100 years ago........

You are correct, sir. John Moses Browning was a Utahan, and it was a sort of tribute to him. I am so proud to be a Utahan.
My dad found a 1944 US Army issue 1911 while digging through my grandpa's house after he died. I try to "borrow" it every chance I get, for as long as I can. For being older than my grandma, it's in good shape!

Any chance it's a Singer? As in made by Singer sewing machines? If I remember correctly they're worth the most money.
I love mine and won't be parting with it while I'm alive.
Always looking for another one, especially a former US Army service pistol.
IIRC, Singer was the most sought after of the pistols... or was that the M2HB?

My dad feels the same way about the one he inherited.
It says Colt all over it, it's not a Singer. Too bad, eh? The M1 carbine dad picked up in the same basement was an Underwood.

I know I'm a FOG. I know there are 'better' pistols than a 1911. I know it is old.
But... I love the way it feels in my hand, and I hate the way those 'fat-gripped' staggered-box pistols feel. (Not that I can hit ANYthing with either... give me a long gun, or better yet, a mortar.)

While I can barely hit center mass with my Colt built in 1943 at 7 yards(Commercial, I won't dare shoot my US Property models) until I figure out the sight picture, most of my modern 1911 designs make me look like a champ.
I have to stay proficient on many weapons, so I can't give any one my undivided attention. This often leads to a very humblling grouping when I have neglected any particular pistol for any length of time. The one design I can always count on to make me feel better in these times of crisis :boohoo is a current 1911. I make no claims to put 8 shots through a single hole (Wish I could and will always be a goal) but I'm happy to let my Ed Brown make me look good when I'm feeling down :).
While technically not your birthday, happy 100 year anniversary to your official enlistment date (29th so I'm a couple days late) Mr. 1911 and thank you for your service to all those that you have served so well over the years.

There's nothing wrong with keeping a beautiful "antique". I have one myself, mounted on a wooden plaque so the barrel is facing the ceiling and I put flowers in it all the time. It's a great conversation piece.:munchin
TS trying to be all Feng Shui.
Beautiful cut flowers put in something that has likely added more fertilizer in the ground than any other style of handgun. :D

In 03' I carried over 250ea M1911A1 out of depot over to Iraq for 5th. Here's a pic of my last one that I carried in 08'. Its a Colt M1911 frame dated 1916 with a Ithaca slide.

My son just returned from another Iraq rotation and he carried a cocked and locked M1911A1 with his team there.
Only other thing that I know that is older and still in general use is the M1907 sling shown here on a Mk 13 .300 Win Mag next to my M79.
