View Full Version : Image re-sizer, Windows 7

I'll take the heat for not searching here first before asking...
I'm running Windows 7 and it doesn't seem there is a readily available image re sizer...and am not comfortable downloading the ones I've seen on the net because not sure of the source.
Any thoughts?

Picasa3 from google is okay. GIMP at gimp.org is good too. both available on the web and safe. GIMP is probably a better editor than Picasa3. Hope that helps some. adal

GIMP is a million times better and much more powerful, but also much more difficult to use. Does Win7 still have "paint?"
If so, you can resize images with that:
Open in paint -> top toolbar -> Image -> Resize/skew -> set the percentage accordingly -> save image.
It's a little more work than some pieces of software, but you know it's relatively safe, and it keeps you from having to take up system space with extra software.

Good things to consider, thanks.
When using Paint, it seems to permanently downsize the image so I no longer have it in hi-res. Am I doing something wrong?

Sir,
Although I am not too familiar with W7, you may or may not have Microsoft Office Picture Manager already on your PC. You could try right-clicking the image>open with, and see if it is available.
Once Picture Manager is open, you click the "Edit Pictures" button, and at the bottom of the toolbar on the right, you can resize your photo to your preference.

Hadn't really thought about that. Paint is originally made for editing *.bmp images, which don't use compression...that may have something to do with it.

Yep, after you resize it, you need to go to File/Save As, and save it with a different filename, such as "IMG_0486_smaller.jpg". This will keep your original "IMG_0486.jpg" intact.
If this is your only task, try to stick with the included Paint program,

Good info, working the problem now with Paint, trying to get some scissors sharpening pics for here.

I used Windows Paint, then did exactly as Perdurabo directed and saved the larger image too.
