I just spoke with my NG recruiter (I'm pursuing Rep-63) and he said that as of April 1, 2011, the max enlistment age for non-prior service into the Army National Guard is 35 years of age. He said he didn't know of any age waivers after 35. Has anyone else heard about this rule change?

Might put an end to stuff like this.
http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2006-08-19-older-recruits_x.htm

I don't care that she is black or she's a she. The rule became "as long as you can get 20 years before mandatory retirement age" of 62 you were gtg.

But Dozer...what a great 'tool' for the DS's to use with the younger recruits.

"What's the matter, Oxburger...can't keep up with Grandma {or Grandpa}?"

On the other hand, every unit needs a mascot for morale purposes.

That was when we needed more people.

Now, we have too many.

Is the Army dropping the age for active and reserve forces as well?
Everything I have found still states 42. But so does all the guard info.

We have rarely had a shortage of people in the recent past; its a shortage of soldiers that is the problem... :munchin

I was looking at going back to the Guard at 44, does anyone know if that's over their age limit?

Not for prior service guys it isn't.

I would give you the POC for a great NG SF recruiter but 20th just lost the best one we had...

Please do, send me the contact. I have an interview with the CO SGM in MD when I return from Balad in July but it would be nice to get an idea of what I'm looking at. I appreciate the help.

Surg, I'll be at 20th tryouts in September. Is there a recruiter you're currently referring candidates to?

Actually its neither. Attention to details... ;)

I dont know any of the recruiters who work with Aco 2/20th. There are however a couple guys here from that company. Maybe they will be along shortly and can provide a POC.

You could also try searching thru the forums for a recruiter, as novel an idea as it is.... I KNOW it has been mentioned here before.

The search and research have been ongoing, and I've contacted A Co. directly as well. I appreciate your guidance.

I downloaded the document dated FEB 8, EFFECTIVE MARCH 8
(from chapter 2 governing the enlistment of NPS)
"2–3. Age
a. Applicant is eligible for enlistment if applicant is at least 17 years of age and has not passed their 42nd birthday"

ALso looked at the memo dated 7 March
first sentance, bold letters,
"This major revision, dated 8 February 2011—

* Incorporates policy requiring non prior Service Reserve Component applicants to be enlisted into their respective Reserve Component not later than their 42nd birthday (para 2-3 a )"

Also from 3.3 for Prior service:
"3-3. Age

Applicant is eligible for enlistment if any of the following apply:

a. An applicant is eligible for RA enlistment if applicant's age, when subtracting prior honorable active Service completed in any military Service, is not more than 42 and the applicant can qualify for regular retirement with 20 or more years of active Federal Service by age 62.

b. Applicant is eligible for enlistment in the AR or ARNG if they are not less than 18 years of age and can qualify for retired pay by age 62. To be eligible for nonregular retired pay, an individual must meet eligibility criteria outlined in AR 135-180 .

c. An applicant is exempt from age criteria outlined above and therefore is eligible for enlistment if they can qualify for retirement by age 62, does not have 20 or more years of active Service, and is a former member of Service who was awarded the Medal of Honor, Distinguished Service Cross, Navy Cross, or Silver Star Medal."

Not sure what the previous post is referring to as far as 35. COuld be wrong.
