A U.S. Special Forces intelligence sergeant assigned to Special Operations Task Force – South scans the area for threats while conducting a security patrol March 9, in Panjwai District, Kandahar province, Afghanistan. The SOTF-South Special Forces team in the area conducts regular patrols in order to bolster security as well as to meet with area villagers to assess development projects.

"Shoot Me First". And wearing an antique uniform.Well, they wear "throwback" uniforms in the NFL and MLB...why not?

Although, I'm not normally one to miss a chance to throw out a good "ding"...

Those "antiquated" uniforms are the uniforms of the afghan SOF, many a team guy have gone back to wearing them in order give the TB a moment of hesitation before he squeezes a trigger.

As for the DUI...I agree it says shoot me first...but then again I often wore a bright yellow Gold's Gym tank top.

Hard to tell...although it does appear the soldier in question is wearing a plate carrier versus normal body armor...not that that means anything either.

The sure indicator in my mind would be the MBITR Radio that is strapped to his belt. Our little buddies don't have those!!!! :D

Bad Beard - must be US.

Most US troops seem to be unable to grow a nature looking beard - I know it is natural but..............

Most US's beard just kinda' look stuck on.

Maybe it's just me.

They look that way because most of us (yes...I'm including myself) just won't leave the things alone...fun with facial hair only comes around every so often...that's why the chain of command is constantly telling people to trim it, no goatees, no handlebar mustaches, etc.

Group Issued Modular Plate Carrier. His gloves and pack are also from Group CIF. As for his choice of uniform, anything BUT ACU's, to include civilian clothes are preferred. The ACU simply does not work in this environment. Monumental waste of money the ACU were. Interesting choice of velcro patch on the back of his ballistic helmet, but it does not appear to be a cross, skull, alcohol related, offensive, or pornographic. Considering the current requirement to wear full patches when in ACU uniform, this is not an OPSEC issue. If a shooter is close enough to see that patch, then he is most likely close enough to see the M4, beard, and oakleys and or round eyes. The new guys rotating in are all in the new Multi Cam, which is the right answer imo.

Not sure really what the fuss is about.

but you made it look good.

Keep in mind...this was a very long time ago (about 5 years now).

But I wore that yellow tank top on a lot of missions too.

Running marathons?.....hahahahaha...surely you have me confused with someone else. No one has ever accused me of running more than I absolutely have to. I never ran from anyone...so why practice? Anyone that knows me is probably laughing their collective butts off over the mental image of me running anything over two miles. It's not pretty.

I apologize for not fact checking 1stindoor, I thought you had mentioned in a post awhile back you ran marathons. Nice deadlift regardless.

However, I very much like the above quoted section of your reply. Good stuff.

No worries. As for my "quotes on running," I've got lots of them...not all of which are original.

1. I never ran from anyone...so why practice. This one is mine. Though I'm certain it's been used by others.
2. Running breeds cowardice. This came from a former Tm Sgt.
3. Don't run, why risk the chance of dying tired. Let the other poor sumbich die while gasping for air. A former teammate.
4. If running is designed to get your heartrate up...then I'm already ahead of the game from my first cigarette (I used to say Copenhagen, although I quit several years ago). Another former Tm Sgt.

I got to spend a two weeks with a Field Artillery Bn (1-10FA IIRC) at FT Benning. Once a month they were required to run 5 miles in under 60 minutes. BNCO stood on a jeep (in those days) and stated "we will run five miles in 59 mminutes, not 58. We are Artillerymen, and if Artillerymen are running there is something seriously, tactically wrong." Sure as sh!t 59 on the button.
I left my desire to be an Artilleryman somewhere on the side of the road that day, I could not wait to go Infantry.

Should men in uniform be forced to shave?

This story is dated 03/23/2011 - Think somebody at the BBC is a lurker on the board? :D

"A rabbi is suing the US Army for refusing to let him serve unless he removes his beard. The US military, as well as many police forces across America, require recruits to be clean shaven. But what is wrong with sporting a beard in the line of duty?

Chin straps, goatees, stubble, soul patches, mutton chops or just the old-fashioned full version................."

Reminds me of a story about one of my uncles. He was visiting his priest, who was a gentleman from Africa and an avid runner. The priest wanted to excuse himself after the meeting to go run, and invited my uncle to join him. My uncle replied, "You have long legs and are clearly God built you to be a runner. We Polish men, we have been given short, stout legs to better stand our ground and fight."

That's classic right there. I would add this one to the mix from an old 18E of mine, "I don't have to run...no one can take my lunch money."

As for the beards, 'staches, turbins, etc...Once we allowed the Sikh waiver the door moved wide open. The Rabbi has a good case now...as does the hasidic jew, the muslim, and everyone else that can claim they're being discriminated against.

Absolutely......... :( It maybe true that an old walrus like myself is not adherent to all the things that our new army is changing into,I'm just glad that I don't have to serve in it today........ :( It's just to much BS that these young tigers have to put up with..........
