"SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The Illinois attorney general says state police must release the name of everyone in the state who is authorized to own a gun.
Illinois state police determine who gets a Firearm Owners Identification card, which allows people to own guns. The police have always kept the list private. ................."
Libs wet dream - publish all the FOID / CCW / et al lists from all the counties of the US so all the gun owners can be "publicly shamed". "Don't let little Johnny go over to their house. They own guns."

The Associated Press had requested the list of FOID cardholders but state police said that would violate the privacy of gun owners. The attorney general's office ruled that argument invalid.
So............Did AP start this?
Many times there are debates on this board about the MSN and it's slant on the news.
This is not the first time the press has pushed the issue of making gun lists pubic for the "Public Good".
The question then becomes "What "public good" is served by publishing the lists?" It sure is not in the "Public Good" of those who are on the list. It lets thugs know which homes hold firearms and which do not. Tells them if they wait untill the car drives off they can kick in the door and find guns.
So is it "Public Good" or "MSM Agenda"?

All I can say is IL sucks. I was denied a FOID because I am not an IL resident. Even though I am AD. My husband was given one only when he became an IL resident after retiring.
I have been trying for 3 years to get one. No joy. I have been denied 3 times all for the same reason.

So sad... Illinois is no longer the same state in which I was born and lived my first 13 years - with a .22 rifle and a .410 shotgun.
Well this will result in two things.
1. Increase in break-ins for homes with no weapons as now the crooks don't have to worry about guns at those residences.
2. Increase in break-ins for homes with guns when no one is at home as now the crooks know where to steal the guns from.

I hate to say it but NC is just as bad. They put the lists online years back, just with redacted names. I think it is criminal.

That's odd. I got one while at Scott as a non-resident AD mil. Still ticks me off that I had to pay to exercise a Constitutional right... all Chicagoans should have to pay a poll tax to vote. :mad:

It might have been Ohio few years back, can't recall, but there was a state that briefly published unredacted info RE CC permit holders (until retracting it, damage done). One estranged/deranged ex- was able to locate his wife & child in hiding based on her permit. Unfortunately for us all she didn't get to make best use of her permit before he beat the tar out of her.
So can't restricting them be an exercise in "public good" if it protects one of our most vulnerable?
AFChic - you're right, Scott is pretty nice. You CAN get a FOID. I have one. Go to the 375th webpage and it'll have a link somewhere in there as to what you have to do. Being AD you don't actually NEED one (unless you are a resident here) but it'll cut down on the tail-pain involved if you ever get yanked for having a "gun".

Thanks I'll visit the site. Each time I have applied in the past has been at the gun club on base. Who knows why I keep getting rejected but maybe in this case the squeaky wheel will get the grease!
