The texture appears to be from forge heat, but the color is bright.

Not really a knife guy but I admire his craftsmanship.
I got this in a text message from John yesterday. He was on the road at a show. Looks like this knife won another Best Bowie for him.

Every single piece of that knife is a serious work of art, and knowing John's work, is fully functional and tough as nails... Absolutely gorgeous from the shape to the edge to the detailing to the sheath.... WOW.
