This is to everyone on this website, please go and give.
This is for our wounded Green Beret wearing Special Forces Soldiers and their families.
To everyone that wanted to donate to this website, I don't want your money, please instead give to the Green Beret Foundation. Let's raise some serious money for Dan and the Green Beret Foundation.
Thanks Dan for doing what you do.
Aaron, this is for you and the men of the GBF.
Thanks,
Jeff

GREEN BERET FOUNDATION
Boston Marathon 2011 4/18/2011 Boston, Massachusetts
I will be running the Boston Marathon as a part of a USASOC Team on 18 April 2011. Last year our team goal was to raise a minimum of $250 per team member; thanks to the outpouring of support, the amount I raised for the Green Beret Foundation was $5,587. My goal this year is to raise at least $6,000 for the Green Beret Foundation ( http://www.greenberetfoundation.org/ ).
The Green Beret Foundation provides unconventional resources to facilitate the special needs of our wounded, and provide unique support to the Special Forces community in order to strengthen readiness and uphold Green Beret traditions and values. Donations to the Green Beret Foundation are tax-deductible (Federal Tax ID Number is 27-1206961).
Donating through this website is simple, fast, and secure with Credit Cards or PayPal. You may also donate directly to the Green Beret Foundation or offline by contacting me directly. If you donate directly to the GBF as part of my fundraising effort, please let me know the amount you donated and I’ll update the total fundraising stats.
Many thanks in advance for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too, Dan

Anyone attempting to donate by Credit/Debit card can wait a few hours, at least. The "enter expiration date" portion of the form is off, starting in the year 2111. I just sent them a note, and I'll post an answer here.

Thanks for posting this...
FWIW, I Wish I would've waited a little while longer to see the "shooting lesson" post... :D
The folks running the site that is processing the donations are having a small problem with Windows 7.
If you attempt to donate by credit card through the website, and are using Windows 7, you need to turn on the compatibility settings under the "Tools" portion of your tool bar.
Otherwise the expiration year screen offers years "111-121"
They're working to correct that.

Well done.
Wish I could have done more.
Not much, and I really wanted to be #100, but then I realized that I'd rather have the ammo put to good use, instead of me just sending thousands and thousands of rounds down range with the possibility of me actually hitting something in eight hours. ;)

Special Operations 'Fraying Around the Edges,' Commander Says
By Karen Parrish
American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, Feb. 8, 2011 - Demand in Afghanistan for special operations forces is "insatiable," even as U.S. Special Operations Command increases its troop strength by a battalion a year, Socom's commander said today.
Speaking at the National Defense Industrial Association's 22nd Annual Special Operations and Low-intensity Conflict Symposium, Navy Adm. Eric T. Olson discussed the effect nearly a decade of war has had on the Defense Department's most elite warriors.
"As we have essentially doubled our force over the last nine years [and] tripled our budget over the last nine years, we have quadrupled our overseas deployments over the last nine years," Olson said.
"We are doing more with more, but the more we're doing it with doesn't match the more we've been asked to do," he said. "We are, frankly, beginning to show some fraying around the edges."

Hey Dan... think you will make that $6k this year? :D
Some of these guys are tightwads.
Hey Dan... think you will make that $6k this year? :D
Some of these guys are tightwads.
Given where the economy was this year when the fundraising started, the goal was to raise a bit more than last year.
These and other tightwads blew that $6k away in a little over 24 hrs!!!
Checks I've received in person get mailed off tomorrow to the GBF, while the online donations can continue ;)

As of this post, there have been $14,383 of total donations to the Green Beret Foundation; thank you all for your gracious support to this fundraiser!!!
Travel from RDU to Boston was delayed due to the tornadoes throughout NC and we got out just after the storm front passed through; didn't realize how bad it was until we landed in Boston that Saturday evening.
Once again this year the Massachusetts (Mass.) State Police and the Boston Athletic Association (BAA) did a superb job at making us VIPs for this event! Special thanks to Steve Pugsley and Bill Coulter from the Mass. State Police for all that they did to support our military runners.
Sunday morning a few of us were picked up by Lt Coulter and driven to the Marathon Expo. Highlight of the day for me was assisting with the Mass. State Police/Military booth and thus being able to meet some great Americans.
Race day morning (Monday) our runners were picked up by coach buses (with bathrooms on them) and escorted by the Mass. State Police Motorcycle Unit from Boston to Hopkinton, where our buses parked just yards from the starting line.
There was a large number of participating Mass. State Police and other sponsored military runners that we were able to mingle with prior to the race start.
Wasn't announced prior to the race, for obvious reasons, but CPT Castro had a VIP guiding him this race. ADML Olson (current USSOCOM CDR) guided him during the marathon with LTC Dummar supporting...see attached photo.
This year there was a three wave start for the almost 27,000 runners, but it was still a crowded start in the third wave. After three miles things got up to speed, as the road widened and the runners thinned. Ran with various other military runners at different phases of the race and caught up with CPT Castro at a hydration spot around mile 16. The last five miles for me were hard/slow due to second order effects from an injury, but wasn't about to quit on everyone that supported this fundraiser for the GBF.
Upon completion of the marathon, we were shuttled back to the the Boston Athletic Club (BAC) on special transportation where friends and family met the runners. After showering at the BAC, there was post race food; featuring some great tasting food at a complimentary BBQ/feast put on by Trooper Chef Todd Glidden and his GHQ volunteers.
With a final thanks from Lt Bill Coulter, we were whisked away to our hotels.
Thanks for the AAR, Dan. Congrats to you.
When does the fundraising start for next year, TS? :D
