DOD Identifies Army Casualty


The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Sgt. 1st Class Anthony Venetz Jr., 30, of Prince William, Va., died Jan. 28 in Parwan province, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained in a non-combat incident. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, N.C.

Tony and I went through Sniper School together and trained for SFAS at Ft. Hood.

I remember when my spotter couldn't see trace on the UKD range, Tony jumped behind the glass and put me on target with no problem. He was a fine Sniper, and a damn good Soldier.
