View Full Version : Pure water & Stills
There is a major pure water source initiative thats been developing (http://www.pgwi.org/)
I'm thinking about one of these:http://www.milehidistilling.com/
as I do not want to build a still, not for single Jersey Malts, but for steady small scale safe water production. The web has an endless source products, I'm thinking portable, low P/M, has anyone here possess first hand knowledge with operating a still. Photos would be a good thing here.

During phase II Commo Field Training, we ran into a guy up in Uwharrie that made an excellent clear, fiery liquid, available in mason jars. I know it was good stuff, he said he just got back from a trip to the planet Venus.

If you showed up in my AO, and told the locals that you were looking to purchase a still, to make pure water, chances are we would never find your body. Just saying.

We have a Fagor Classic Broaster/Pressure Cooker. Here are the instructions for turning it into an emergency still. No need for a single use item.
One of the foxfire books has the plans for a still (don't recall which one) that you could probably use for distillation.
Or you could get something similar to this: http://www.waterdistillersusa.com/English_Site/English_HomePage.htm
I have used a Durastill Model 3040 in a "Stan" country before. These worked great. We had three of them for about 45 people.
The only thing with an manufactured distiller. You MUST plan for any Filters. Most have Inline water filters or some kind. Also if your in a hard water area you WILL have build up on internal pipes. Plan for your cleaning too and repair parts if your going overseas with no mailbox.
Home stills are fun!!
PSM & MG, tx on the info, exactly what I was looking for, simple and direct. PSM who was the manufacturer?

Handheld or gravity water filters from the sinks. We boiled water too.
We had three.. one in use for about a month. Then two running at the same time with one on back up for 6 months, We would change the usage out every two week, allowing one to cool and get somewhat cleanned by us. Then I started to turn one in to get cleaned after I found a local that could fit them. In-line filters came from the US VIA Embassy mail, but that took me about three months to get my first one. Lesson Learned.

Fagor. It's built like an autoclave. I'm not sure if they still make it, though.
BTW, I love broasted chicken. ;) In 9 minutes!
ETA: Magefesa seems to have something similar, also. Fagor still sells them in Europe.
